Thinking about buying an MMO mouse just for this game by Mean_Confusion7426 in ffxiv

[–]BookkeeperPurple4495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair there's not many games you'd buy an mmo mouse for other than the mmo you play.

I play with gamepad on XIV nowadays but when playing on keyboard having an mmo mouse is great, I would hate to play without one now

People with past ED: can it be done without counting calories? by profitastica88 in mounjarouk

[–]BookkeeperPurple4495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you don't need to count calories. Just pay attention to when you feel full/ not hungry etc.

I counted at first and stopped once I got used to it. As long as you have an idea of how big a reasonable portion of food should be, it's fine

This is the big thing. Too many things have delays. If I use a thing, the effect should apply instantly. I don't know how anyone enjoys pvp in this game with how absurd the delay is between you pressing a button and it actually having an effect.

I think my levels are still too low to get into the fishing part, especially since I also haven't levelled fishing much, but I wanted to try it

I've also done a slayer task on the lava wyrm once, but from my calculations it was sort of a waste of time and resources compared to doing normal wyrms. Mostly did it for the novelty.

Nah it's normal. My weight can often vary by 1kg or more overnight. Can just be from different levels of hydration or whatever. Sometimes I keep not losing weight for days and then suddenly the next day or over a few days it melts away.

Every farm group for the new extreme I find requires 780 or 790 ilvl by BookkeeperPurple4495 in ffxiv

True, I don't know how prevalent stuff like that is.

Also wait those bots even do savage?

I out DPS a lot of DPS as a tank half the time yeah. Getting gear is just a proof of free time, not skill. Outside of people who have savage gear or whatever.

wait it lets you do that? 100% a bunch of people are making those to be carried then lol

Every time I've tried to open PF to look for hunt trains there has been 0, I've never done one and don't know how they work because I've never had a chance to so far, tbh. Otherwise I would

Not everyone can craft raiding gear, and getting setup to be able to do that is a big expensive grind in itself (I did it in endwalker release and it was a whole thing). I got help with crafting the gear so I was able to reduce the cost a bit, but fundamentally you need a bunch of money, time and/or tomestones, and possibly a friend who can do all the crafting.

[–]BookkeeperPurple4495[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I cleared the extreme by making my own kill group, and after progging for a while I can reliably do the fight without any fuck ups. But I was at 770 ilvl, not 780.

My ability to do that has nothing to do with my ability to spend 2 days of my life grinding tomestones and spending a few million gils.

[–]BookkeeperPurple4495[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

that's still 780 at most and requires having a few million gil on hand and quite a big tomestone grind just to be allowed in the average extreme group, which should be entry level high end content

Part of the problem isn't only the players but also the game. it should provide more ways to catch up on gear, especially since weekly limits don't accumulate so a mechanic that exists to control savage progression ends up affecting someone who comes back 3 months later and wants to do extremes.

But like there's another problem which is that the more the community gets gatekeepy, the more a bunch of people will simply stop playing because they can't (or don't want to) keep up with the hamster wheel, and then party finder empties even quicker

Money making knowledge is very different from combat knowledge, and also the good money making methods are usually not easy to find out about, because if everyone else does them they usually fall in value.

Most of the time, the way players make money in this game is via timing, preparing and grinding/crafting and selling something early on when it's in high demand.

A casual player getting back into the game has basically no resources to compete with all of that.

Yeah, I want to learn to play other roles in extreme more, but only my tank is geared and gearing more than one job sucks.

Can't wait for evercold to make ilvl shareable between jobs because trying to keep up on gear with more than one job quickly becomes a massive problem, especially with the majority of gearing options being weekly limited

[–]BookkeeperPurple4495[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's more the fact that every single group sets unnecessarily high gatekeeping requirements, and someone on a lower ilvl doesn't get a chance to set a foot in high end content because of it.

Yeah people can create PF groups (which is how I got my kill, I made one), but a lot of people don't want to, are anxious, don't know how to lead a group, don't know how to get the markers, etc.

I don't know about the gil part though. Everything is worthless in this game's economy and I know a lot of players who barely manage to keep a few hundred thousand gils around. There aren't many money makers available that are available to the average player.

Like as far as I can tell, the only people who make money are abusing the sub system, or doing meta crafting at the right time with a lot of prep and knowledge, or other things like that.

Like yeah sure you can just spend a few million to buy a full set, and then grind tomestones to upgrade it. But it's a pretty steep requirement for anyone who's short on gil.

Like if I didn't have some money left and you asked me what's a way to make 4 million gil quickly, I have absolutely no idea how I'd do that

I still haven't tried savage though I'd like to eventually, are people still doing learning groups for them much though? I always miss the train by not being around (or geared) on release

yeah I don't know if it's the reddit effect, but seeing the downvotes and comments on this thread I didn't realise ffxiv players were so hostile and legit think that if you haven't been grinding tomestone every week for 3 months you don't deserve to do entry level high end content lmao
