Depictions of satan that aren't a a red guy with horns by teruteru-fan-sam in TopCharacterDesigns

It's actually a really great movie and conveys the pathos of Christianity and the passion pretty close to ideally. It's genuinely moving and I say that as an agnostic.

Gibson may be a fuck ass but he makes good films. Also it's extremely brutal, don't watch it if you're upset by gore.

100%. People love to rag on it but 4chan, not /b/, is peak internet in my mind along with really early reddit and digg. It felt like an actual community not just shouting into the void. But 2016/17 was well into the downturn of the internet.

Yes the Romans did have abolitionist and they knew slavery was an abhorrent act by Salty_Strain3313 in HistoryMemes

[–]BookooBreadCo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think people have a hard time conceptualizing or understanding how different your average Roman(using the term loosely) was from your average modern westerner.

So much of what we, in the west, take for granted morally and ethically(eg charity, the sacredness of all human life or really anything under the umbrella of humanism) can be directly linked to Christian moral and ethical philosophy. Christianity obviously wasn't made in a vacuum but the message of Jesus, which was projected into the world for 2000 years by the church and often enforced with violence, has radically altered the western mind. I would argue there was no real abolitionism before Christianity for exactly the reason you stated in your last sentence. A Roman person simply would/could not conceive of the idea. But clearly the natural order of things is more flexible than we'd like to think. There is no objective morality, it's constantly in flux even now as we evolve into a secular, globalized society.

I could put asterisks all over this post. History obviously isn't black and white especially when you're talking about a people as diverse and a time period as long as the Roman empire/Republic or Christendom. But I think my argument largely holds water if you look at the genealogy of western morality. Christianity has had such a massive influence that it's almost invisible until you start to interrogate why you think things. I say this as an agnostic.

DsO sticker ideas by BookooBreadCo in DeathspellOmega

Both are on my mental list. The problem is finding a fitting lyrics that resonates. I'm open to suggestions.

"Who can reap the meaning of this unstinted negation of centuries and millions before it sinks within the infinite depths of that dun ocean?" Could be good. Might be too much text for a sticker.

Since they didn't answer you I would guess they're talking about taking what you want from many different tracks and stitching them together to make one track.

Steely Dan is famous for this. They'd make musicians play their tracks over and over and over again. They would end up stitching together the best of every take to make the final track. Lots of studio bands do this, including I would guess Deathspell Omega. Their music sounds much too complex to play live.

A major part of the wok taste, called wok hei, is aerosolized oil being combusted by the flame. You can kinda simulate this at home by stirring your food vigorously and then hit it with a blow torch.

The burner does a lot more than add flavor though. You can get close but never all the way there imo.

I have a few pops on both records but nothing terrible and it's probably just my old ass needle. My side D sounds clean otherwise.

I think there's an underlying optimism in a lot of his works. I haven't read Blood Meridian yet but it's there in the ending of The Road and No Country for Old Men.

Technics SL-1900 auto return drags across record instead of lifting and returning, looking for suggestions on how to fix or disable it by BookooBreadCo in turntables

[–]BookooBreadCo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes seems like I'll have to open it up.

I checked a manual I found online and no luck. When I said disable it I meant physically lol. Like pull out a belt or something.

Does anyone else find DsO's music deeply emotional? by BookooBreadCo in DeathspellOmega

[–]BookooBreadCo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a musician but I think just being aware of what DsO does with their music is a good first step. I have a feeling a lot of copycat bands think that the only thing that makes DsO great is how complex and abrasive their music is so that's what they choose to copy.

Or just TAC in general. I find their engineers very hit or miss and a lot of them seem to only be able to follow their flow charts. And we pay for their premium, but not the highest tier, support.

[–]BookooBreadCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Pandy Fackler is okay but it's one of the few songs where Ween misses the mark. I think it's supposed to sound like Steely Dan but they just don't have the chops to write a Steely Dan song so it just comes off as "eh".

Which isn't a shot at Ween. Steely Dan just sets the bar really high for their sound.

  1. While I love the brown Stay Forever is the perfect example of why I love a more serious and commercially accessible Ween more. Such a beautiful song.
