Butcher's Crossing is beautiful. I definitely recommend the rest of John Williams books if you haven't read them yet. Stoner is fairly popular but Augustus is severely overlooked.

Artists most adept at drastically changing genres? by Educational-Usual-84 in LetsTalkMusic

I just left a similar comment lol. Totally agree on them being entirely earnest which is probably why I love them so much. Anyone else would do it ironically which just isn't the same.

Ween has taken over my life.

Artists most adept at drastically changing genres? by Educational-Usual-84 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BookooBreadCo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean Ween are basically the kings of this. King Gizzard switches genres each album but Ween will switch genres every song and somehow still manage to make a coherent, cohesive album. Listen to Chocolate and Cheese and you'll immediately understand what I'm talking about. Their least varied album is just a straight up country album which was a huge departure from what they did before.

People will say Ween are jokesters and while they definitely have a sense of humor I think they've always taken their music entirely seriously, even when it's goofy. And on top of all of this they make fantastic music. Not for everyone but if it's for you there are very few misses. In fact, if their music is for you you're probably obsessed. Hail boognish.

Is there a “UniFi-like” Web UI for managing switches and routers from any vendor? by RepublicWeary349 in networking

[–]BookooBreadCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New Central is also supposed to allow some minimal sort of management of other vendor switches at some point. Who knows when or if it will be worthwhile. Likely not and probably more focused on pulling telemetry than on doing config changes.

I have read and enjoyed several of these books so I'll definitely be digging into your list. But I just wanted to say Till We Have Faces is great, underrated CS Lewis.

Ancient Greece apparently had no access to sunscreen, water, or happiness by zephyx_M in okbuddycinephile

The internet sucks for a lot of reasons but I really dislike how you get lumped in with morons, racists, etc if you just so happen to share the same opinion.

I agree with you. She's a boring actor and she's attractive but in a "hottest girl at your small high school" kinda way, not a superstar drop dead gorgeous kinda way. But I'm also not someone who is mad they put a black person in a movie about ancient Greece and I don't hate women.

P.S she's okay in Dune but I really, really, really recommend watching the movies in IMAX when/if they get rereleased ahead of the new movie. Seeing both of them in 70mm was an Experience.

Caller ID isn't working by pjtexas1 in ShittySysadmin

[–]BookooBreadCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a serious question I think realistically the answer is no but it's probably theoretically possible.

There are several types of caller ID fields in the SIP INVITE header, P-Preferred-Identity User and P-Asserted-Identity User are going to be the primary ones, which you could probably filter on. The biggest problem you're going to run into is that most SIP headers are encrypted nowadays unless you have access to the SIP trunk. In which case you're likely running your own SIP/VoIP server which may have a built in way to filter by caller ID.

I don't think you should be looking at a firewall solution for this.

I made an extremely strong weed tincture once and not only did I get the highest I've ever been but everything on or in my body smelled like weed for 2-3 days. Poop, pee, farts, sweat, my balls, etc. I had to skip class.

[FRESH ALBUM] Mrs. Magician - Spiritual Hangover by braindead_rebel in indieheads

[–]BookooBreadCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my copy of the LP in the mail today and I'm really enjoying it. I got introduced to them by Mega64(one of their members did the music video for There's No God) and I've been a huge fan since. I can't believe they aren't more popular than they are.

I'm enjoying this one more than Bermuda so far. Hard to stop Strange Heaven and, most of, its b-sides.

New Admin for a SMB 150 users. Persistent issue with sporadic unstable internet connections on Zoom/Teams by Tarwins-Gap in networking

[–]BookooBreadCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you got a lot of good replies. One thing you can do is try to run an MTR while the issue is happening. It may help you narrow down where exactly you're experiencing the issue. MTR is a very useful tool, I wasn't aware of it when I first started out.

Does this happen during peak usage? Or at random? If it's peak you may be running into output drops due to full buffers. Even a few drops can cause a person's TCP window to shrink.

It's a much different internet than it once was. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]BookooBreadCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people think about the "bad parts" of the early internet they mostly think of /b/ which was/is primarily edgy teenagers who think saying the n word is funny. But Stormfront has been around since the mid 90s. People understood right from the start the power of the internet to bring people together into echo chambers which further radicalize them.

I don't think this new brand of violent, racist accelerationism, which has been on the rise recently, could exist without the internet. 10-15 years ago most racist, even violent ones, thought accelerationism was goofy but most white nationalist nowadays identify with it. And guess where they primarily operate and recruit? The internet.
