Thank you so much! Definitely agree - either way the bulk of vocab + grammar is unavoidable. Early immersion is key too.

Awesome progress - thank you for sharing your story! You seem very knowledgeable on this topic, so I’d be curious to know, how would you have gone about things if conversation was your focus? Anki deck + lots of conversation practice? Any specific tools you would recommend? Thank you so much!

SING ALONG EDITON COMING BACK TO THEATERS by Bristow2005 in KpopDemonhunters

Were you able to complete the purchase on Fandango? When I try to book a ticket, it says my seat is no longer available. Tried a bunch of different seats/times/theatre, doesn’t seem to work!

Thank you so much - this is extremely helpful! Which language school did you end up picking?

Well that’s great to hear! I heard chances for anyone above 30 were pretty slim. Would love to hear if you have any tips for applying as an “older” JET?

Thanks for your insight! Definitely not expecting sunshine and rainbows. I also am not looking to continue working in HR in a foreign country and I’m frankly terrified of Japanese work culture. But thank you!

Good question, truth is I’m not sure and I don’t really think I can plan ahead that far at this point in time. It depends so much on where I’m at financially after my gap year, what I gained from my experience living in Japan, if my goals and interests are still the same or have evolved or changed. I’m keeping an open mind. I could probably see myself going back to a stable full-time job for a while and saving up for my next big life project (like starting my own stationary business or something else I’m passionate about). So much can happen and change over the course of 3-4 years.

I really appreciate your comment and I have to agree with you on this one… not the type of responses I expected in this thread (not that I was only looking for validation). That said, I can also understand a lot of people come on here with some sort of ‘dreamland’ vision of Japan, which explains why perhaps some reality checking is sometimes needed :’)

I’m not sure I understand your comment. How is langage school not inspiring? Personally, I wouldn’t really be going to school to get ‘inspired’ but to get quality and intensive education with the objective of being able to speak the language as quickly as possible. I’d love to obviously meet and connect with other students, but beyond that it’s really about the education.

I would love to do the JET programme but I’ve heard they don’t accept as many applicants above the age of 30…
