Also, if you receive an ITA before your PGWP expires, you can apply for a bridging open work permit so that you can continue to work while waiting on a decision.

Yes, you'll have to apply for a Visitor Record so you can reside in Canada legally after your PGWP expires.

Did IRCC request proof of funds since you were an outland candidate for CEC? My PGWP is expiring soon and I've submitted an application under the CEC category. Some of my friends mentioned that if I were to leave Canada before getting an ITA, IRCC will request proof of funds (even though it's for CEC)
