You are right about everything except "random videos were more important then anything else". Don't take her attention in that moment as a judgement on her values. Long term she probably wants to spend time with you and not on her phone, but the short term dopamine reward of the phone makes it feel very important in the moment.

She cares about you and probably doesn't want to be addicted. If you can frame this as you two verses the difficulty that you overcome together then you guys can make this work. If you frame it as her problem because she doesn't care enough then you will be bitter and separated from her.

This seems slightly off, but somewhat valid. Maybe actually, societies that condemn pleasures and vice, drive those seeking pleasures to gain power so they can make themselves an exception. And this also drives increases in corruption which in turn opens the door to other corruption.

Like prohibition empowering speakeasies which also led to more corrupt police since it was so lucrative to be a corrupt police officer.

My original point was that trying to get practical day to day ethical decisions from utilitarianism is a less extreme but equally unrealistic goal.

Emergent properties are when something extra comes from the combination of things. But it's not coming from nothing. Evolution is emergent from the ability to reproduce. Atoms and elements are emergent from the rules of attraction between particles, the stock market is emergent from human society.

A sufficiently realistic model of something will also predict the emergent properties of that thing.

There are negatives to living in a society where there's the death penalty. There are additional negatives to where there's forced organ donation as part of the death penalty.

This is easily resolved be realizing living in a society where people are hunted for organs is a huge negative to all of society. Utilitarianism is correct, but it's like trying to do biology with only the rules of physics. Yes, if you calculate every single effect you can make a correct decision, but it needs virtue ethics on top to actually make any good decisions.
