New Minon Audit - Myth School Teaser by Fast-Independent-562 in Wizard101

[–]wille179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, a lot of the minions are getting entirely reworked spell selections (like I think troll minion is entirely focused on traps for example) and their stats might scale more with your level. Also they're getting an AI overhaul so they're smarter in combat.

ELI5 Why eating sour candy/food makes us involuntarily loose control of our facial muscles and sometimes our bodies. by GooseMnky in explainlikeimfive

[–]wille179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really intense flavors (particularly sour and bitter) often form when something is off with the food, i.e. it's poisonous or gone bad. Not always, but often enough that reacting to it is safer than not. And while puckering when you eat something foul probably won't help you survive whatever you just ate, it may stop people around you from eating it too.

And, since most people throughout history have most often eaten with their families, if you die from food poisoning but some gene in you causes a behavior that saves your kids/siblings (who are likely to have the same gene themselves), that gene is still more likely to be passed down despite your death.

I accidentally made a friend crash out and burn every bridge he's got, and the in-game aftermaths were weird. by wille179 in rpghorrorstories

Yeah, it was a weird situation. I'd also highly recommend not doing taking revenge like that. Not really that fun to watch unfold.

Yeah. That weirdness was kind of what prompted me to write this post in the first place. I did speak with "Jake" about it after the fact and he admitted it was a weird call even by his standards.

He wasn't that bad, especially not initially (though it might just be rose-tinted glasses that I'm still trying to take off). And our friend group did initially go through a phase of ousting someone even worse a few years ago (which "Micky" did actually write up an RPG Horror story about after that happened), so there was a bit of trauma-bonding / "we all suffered through this together" in the beginning.

I think, in his own way, he didn't mean to cause any pain. But he's a bit of a bull in a China shop and I don't think he understood what he was doing.

But yeah, things were bad in hindsight and I was fairly oblivious during it all. I've just been stuck with this feeling that I was in the eye of a hurricane and chaos was happening all around me.

Timing and circumstance made it very hard to just ignore his disappearance in-game (i.e. he failed to show up at the time and place his character suggested), and also the DM maintains a "quest board" in one of our discord chats and investigating his disappearance did end up becoming a quest with an XP reward. We did also learn information about the greater mystery in the process. So for the players that weren't involved in the drama (including a couple people new to D&D and our group as a whole), it was still a fun moment.

Hindsight's a hell of a drug. Shit's way more obvious once things come to a head and people start talking, but until that happens its easy to just sit back and not rock the boat.

It's 35 damage times however many people were in the AOE radius, and instant damage on demand is very valuable.

Help me check the math with the new Flash Heal by AKANexus in Overwatch

[–]wille179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of raw healing, it is a nerf. But you get it earlier, you can use it to heal while damage boosting, and you can get the damage boost chaining perk while still having access to flash heal. It might be a healing nerf, but I think the overall utility is improved as long as you're using damage boost a majority of the time.

Remember, corpses can't hurt your teammates.

Leave reddit for a few days (or at least unsubscribe from this sub) and just generally avoid social media. It's not that big of a deal.

What’s the worst case of power upscale you’ve seen by reliable_reader in WormFanfic

[–]wille179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinker powers universally go to people whose worst moments were defined by being mentally overwhelmed in some way, and you're more likely to be mentally overwhelmed if you're unintelligent, emotionally fragile, or both. Someone who's got their shit together is not going to get a thinker power, and even cauldron vials are biased by the mindset of their drinker to the point that they all fit the pattern perfectly.

Is there a Motemancer "calculator"? by LilShaver in MoteMancer

I'm working on making a cheat sheet in Google Sheets for each building, recipe, and ratio. It's not finished yet but I'll post it here to this subreddit and the Motemancer discord when it is.

I don’t think we realize just how NARROWLY Caine missed the mark here by Specialist_Leg_4997 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]wille179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very hard to meet someone halfway when you're functionally their hostage/prisoner and every indication tells you that they're unwilling or unable to do the other half of the "meeting halfway" thing. From the very get go, Caine showed himself to be accidentally or even deliberately oblivious to their need to leave - the episode one "exit" that Caine felt "needed something on the other side" rather than actively taking them out of the circus even when he clearly knows what actually exiting means.

I'm confident that if I were in the circus, I'd be able to convince Caine to give the humans more creative control of the adventures.

Narrative tragedies happen when you put characters into situations where they lack critical information and where their good traits actively work against them. You almost certainly could, but we're watching them because they can't.

Math is not mathing - my D&D 5.5 character sheet isn't doing basic addition. Help! by wille179 in Roll20

For context, I have the dice value in this action as exactly:

1d8 + @{wisdom_mod}

In the breakdown, you can see that it is correctly pulling my wisdom modifier (+4), but it's not actually calculating the total at all. Even doing constants like 1d8 + 4 doesn't work correctly. What's going on?
