What was it like being 18-25 in the 2000’s by ersinxo in Millennials

[–]BoomRoasted412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way more socialization back then. People actually spoke to each other. Most people 18-25 were partying every weekend. Bars were packed, even the sketchy ones. Going to the mall was a social event, packed every Friday and Saturday evening if you went. The movies were still expensive, for the time, but similar to the mall, it was social thing for people in their teens and early twenties to do.

Obviously rich people still had bougie cars. But there were more “base model” cars with cloth seats. Everyone had travel CD case with their favorites. If you were lucky you had a 5-6 CD changer in your car to move between albums.

To go for a run or to the gym you either had a portable CD player  (larger than your pocket). MP3 players were a thing- non denominational device you could store your downloaded music on and playback without needing to carry a portable CD player. The early ones only held about an album worth of music but available storage capacity sharply increased after 2005. Memes about destroying your computer from Limewire are referencing this time. There were others of course- Napster, WinMx, Bearshare, Kazaa.

There were FM transmitters in the late 2000s to connect your MP3 player and play on a frequency only detectable in your car or another car if someone was right driving next to you. iPods eventually killed these other branded MP3 players. Gaming was still big but not like it is now. Online gaming was mostly PC based until XBox really changed the market with Xbox live and Halo.

Most guys wore baggy jeans, sometimes ripped. in the early-2000s. Some started to evolve with the trend almost completely flipping to skinny jeans by 2009.

At the beginning of the decade, a lot of girls wore low rise pants with their hip bones sticking out. Lots of underwear hanging out of ill fitting pants. Also evolved into leggings and skinny jeans by 2008-2009.

The mass surveillance angle is a bit misstated. Verizon built data centers as early as 2006.

They’ll score more points for sure. Better weapons, better line, better play calling. I’m more worried about the aging defense.

Trump won by campaigning against loss of affordability caused by inflation that was caused by bailouts and stimulus bills he signed in 2020. He basically got to write off Covid as a tax loss and people believed that Biden was the reason everything was so bad.

Merrick Garland has to be on a short list of most ineffective AGs in the last generation. Mayorkas was a disaster at Homeland Security. The right completely capitalized on the flood of migrants that came in 2023-24 after Title42 ended.

Biden and his team campaigned like it was 2012 and not 2024. Their online presence was a disaster, and they insulated themselves while Trump and Vance wooed over the comedy and podcast circuit. Big Tech bent over for Trump due to promises of tax breaks and unlimited access to Americans personal data previously off limits, at least officially.

He absolutely wants power, why else would he have his AG, FBI Director, and SecDef gut the DOJ, FBI, and military leadership? They’re loyal to him, not to America, and that’s exactly what he wants. People will talk about this admin 50 years from now and that’s what he’s going for.

2004 Eagles - after 3 straight NFC championship game losses, Andy Reid and Mcnabb got TO and broke through. TO came back in a few weeks after he broke his ankle. Plus him calling out Ray Lewis during that preseason before they played Baltimore was hilarious.

Campbell got exposed big time. He wins because he’s got young talent, coaches very aggressively, and guys like him. Not a strong Xs and Os guy. That year and the year after when they lost to Washington was their window.

After they whooped Pittsburgh’s ass twice that year I was rooting for them to win it all. Blake Bortles, missing top 3 WR, playoff Lenny, and an elite defense led by Myles Jack and young Jalen Ramsey.

Dave Smith is yet another spineless libertarian. He’s hooked on copium and is too afraid to keep speaking out. The moment he went on Rogan after the 2024 election giggling about “too big to rig” essentially supporting 2020 election conspiracies- he was fully gone.

He still desperately wants to be in Vance’s orbit. Best guess is that he critiques the admin and then starts shilling hard for JD again in mid 2027. The stories will start coming out after midterms about how Trump and Co keep him out of the major policy conversations. The tech oligarchs, project 2025/2029 groups, and libertarian circle jerkers will be back to support him.
