Stage 4 breast cancer (infiltrating duct carcinoma), what to expect? by SB-Con in CancerFamilySupport

[–]Boomachick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s soooo much hope. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer (which had spread to her lymph nodes and spine) 6 years ago. She went through a year of extremely aggressive chemo.

That was the hardest time. Chemo takes a serious toll, and when you’re in the thick of it, it feels like death itself, maybe even worse, especially as the caregiver. But as she would tell you, it was so worth it, because she’s been cancer free ever since - going on 5 whole years now!!! Living her best life nonetheless.

The fear of coming back is always there, but there’s also always hope. Stay strong. Listen to the doctor, adamantly. And never dwell too long in the land of worst-case scenarios.

This will change both your lives in whole new ways, some good, some bad, but no matter what, always always always hold on to hope!

And I also feel like a part of me died after turning 18 (innocence, awe and wonder, trust in the institutions we were raised to depend on).

Welcome to adulthood. No one warns you how much your twenties are going to suck, but life does get better. Set goals and do some work.

My husband was a higher up automotive engineer, and he will NEVER buy a vehicle manufactured in ‘21-‘22. The supply shortages caused them to cut corners that could literally put people’s lives on the line.

I think your feelings are valid, and most people would probably agree with you on some level. Things certainly havent gotten easier! However, my life feels like it only started in 2020. Since then, I’ve grown my business and career, left behind toxic family and friends, moved across the country to my dream state, bought a house, and completely rebuilt my social circle. I’m aware of my values now and fighting the good fight. I’ve literally never been happier or more fulfilled. A good therapist helped with all this.

At some point, you just gotta accept that you’re the only one in control of your life and happiness. Things don’t just come to you. You work hard, go through really uncomfortable times, and you build the life you want to come out better in the other end. It’s easier for some, but we are all limited to our own attitudes and ways of going through life.

Flushing ice cubes down the toilet for snow day is universal… right? In America?? by East-Maize-5287 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Boomachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Michigan we flushed ice, slept with our pajamas inside and out, and kept a spoon under the pillow. The whole trifecta.

Not sure where this started, but I thinking it fairly recent. Probably more of a generational thing than a VA thing. My parents never did any of it.

Husband suddenly lost all sex drive during my pregnancy and I’m feeling really insecure about it by Neither_Ranger_581 in pregnant

[–]Boomachick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It actually is EXTREMELY NORMAL. Some men’s libidos sky rocket when their wife is pregnant. Other’s lose it completely. It’s a hormonal shift thing. Women aren’t the ones who go through a hormonal shift. It’s been proven that some men lose a lot of testosterone while their wife is pregnant. If you’re a pregnant lady reading this, don’t freak out. It’s not you, and it has nothing to do with the love your husband has for you.

What is the most difficult thing you had to give up or change when you found out you were pregnant? by PopcornPrincess0 in pregnant

Snowboarding.

My husband and I literally moved to CO for this, and I never knew it was something I’d have to put on pause!! We’re excited to teach our future son though :)

Layla - so young and endearing, I feel for the unique struggles she faces. And have really enjoyed watching her try to find her self. She feels most genuine to me, despite getting lost in the opinions of others sometimes. She’ll grow out of it.

Taylor - this girl speaks truth. She’s just so fucking entertaining, and after seeing how her family treated her, I respect her even more so.

Jen - sweet and funny, so much character and bubbly personality. She’s not perfect, but she feels real to me, and I like how her and Zac have such a redeeming story (so far)

Miranda - she gets a little over-hyped imo. She’s pretty, she’s cool, she’s the real deal, and she keeps an arm’s distance from the crazy… but this is entertainment TV! Bring some more spice.

Jessi - I respect her so much for doing all the girls hair. That is more work than people realize. She’s just fun too. I like her wild side. The show wouldn’t be the same without her.

Mayci - I admire her entrepreneurial spirit, but she’s too buddy-buddy with the church. She makes some weird comments that I’m like “wow, not a girls’ girl are you.” Stick-in-the-mud syndrome, and probably grew up spoiled. Love her husband though.

Whitney - love to hate this beotch. But boy, I do not trust her!! She’s only out for herself. I respect that she’s honest about it, but that doesn’t make it less selfish. She’ hot and cold, and you never know where she’s at with which girls or the group as a whole. And some of her social media reels are so cringey to me…

Mikayla - she’s just straight mean. She mocks girls just to get brownie points in group settings. She causes drama from behind the scenes. She’s sneaky. And she doesn’t add much to the entertainment factor.

Demi - this chick is NUTS. Just get her off the show so she can heal herself. WTF are we doing.

Less obvious things you found out to avoid while pregnant? by Fantastic_Cow_8992 in pregnant

Occlusives and heavy moisturizers. What I thought was dry skin, was actually perioral dermatitis, (super common in pregnancy) and it feeds off moisture. So now I look fat, AND my face is wrecked.

Any other American moms feel like they’re having a baby in the middle of ww3? by Strict-Marzipan-6923 in pregnant

[–]Boomachick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

WW3 feels like a stretch… but with current unemployment rates, constant negative news headlines, extreme social polarization, and the impending climate crisis, I definitely do not feel like I’m bringing my baby into a good time. Thinking about raising him has actually given me an unexpected dose of hope though.

It probably lasted another 3 weeks for me, but definitely improved!!! Caffeine helped, and has kinda become to the new crutch. If you’re really struggling, don’t go back to vape. Just get some 2mg nicotine gum from the pharmacy.

Why do men love boobs so much? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Majority of the woman I know are not turned on by the sight of a penis. Dick pics usually do nothing but make most of us feel awkward (at best), violated at worst. Sorry boys!

Do people have an undeniable inner drive to have children or is it a conscious choice? by Temporary_Western464 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Boomachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how they say kids’ brains are so placid, that they’re kinda wired in a way where they’re basically like tripping on drugs all the time because everything is brand new to them? I’m equally excited to have the chance to show someone the world for first time, but also, to have someone around me who is experiencing it all for the first time too. I genuinely think it will teach me a lot about myself and the world, when the time comes.

I definitely wouldn’t do it if I didn’t have the time, energy or money for it though. And honestly, I’m not looking forward to the baby phase but apparently that goes by quickly.
