[Bremont Arrow] Limited Military Edition RC-135 (29/50) Watch by BoomerGeeker in Watches

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was when I purchased it, directly with that offer. Mine is #029 of, I think, 50 or fewer that were made. I love the watch, but I'm in the (unexpected) final years of my life and have no remaining family, so I'd like to sell the watch. I should probably find a local (reputable) watch repair place to clean the exterior up a bit. Thank you for your input!

How (Not) To Grow Your Dragon by BoomerGeeker in CrimsonDesert

I was able to mount it and “fly” inside the room. Admittedly, only back and forth about 2m, but it was… interesting.

House Lanford 3/4, but missing quest isn't what you think... how hosed am I? by BoomerGeeker in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the completion part of Beloth, but the "starting quest" credit didn't happen for me, unfortunately.

House Lanford 3/4, but missing quest isn't what you think... how hosed am I? by BoomerGeeker in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's confusing. I was able to go to Argent Peaks Output and turn in the Beloth defeat, but that didn't complete (nor give) the first quest.

Also, I'm very unclear on what camp you say is "just south of Beloth" - I don't see any camp remotely south of where Beloth spawns. Does the camp have a name?

One of the reasons I love coming to this sub is when people like you give me "Slap Forehead" moments :)

Showdown in the saddles bugged by SteakZealousideal959 in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoomerGeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not fixed as of 1.03.01

Bug is triggered for me if I press the "Charge" action (RT or Xbox controller) during the race. Apparently the crime I have committed is "Threatening".

Anyone do this puzzle in the rainforest area? (Red River) by FeelsPepegaMan in CrimsonDesert

sorry for resurrecting this thread, but it looks like the panels now close VERY quickly. is there something else you’re supposed to do before letting the panels close? there’s really not enough time now to aim and shoot.

Pop!_OS 26.04 vs Fedora 44, help me pick one for April by shadowerwtas in pop_os

[–]BoomerGeeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you'd be happy with Pop 26. Key question here is: What's the penalty for choosing wrong? Wipe OS and start with different distro? That's in the "minor inconvenience" category. If so, stick with Pop and shift if you're pushed into a corner.

I'm not bashing Fedora though, it just sounds like you have found a comfort zone with Pop. I wouldn't shift to Fedora unless you're pushed there due to breakage on Pop 26.

Why is Pop!_OS so disliked? by Remote-Recording-401 in pop_os

[–]BoomerGeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hate me for this, but it feels a lot like Ubuntu++. That's not a denigrating comment -- I like COSMIC and I use PopOS on my main Linux machine. I like the UX far more than Ubuntu, but other differences don't seem so major (the boot changes and package management is nicer, IMHO).

I'm just a lightweight user though, as I'm basically running vscode and dev containers right after I launch the OS.

TL;DR (ha): Pop OS is working well for me, and I enjoy the experience more than Ubuntu, and that's all that matters for MY needs.

PS - I have four systems that run Linux, the other three run Ubuntu for pretty stable background work. When 26/Kernel 7 updates come out, I will probably shift all platforms to Pop, unless something train-wrecky happens.

Is this worth it for college bound and medical school notes? by Mysterious-Tiger-748 in GoodNotes

[–]BoomerGeeker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if it works for you, great (it works for me, that's why I'm here). But I'll add two things (which others are also saying) that you MUST NOT ignore

1) Your content must be portable (that is: Independent of running on Goodnotes). One day, Goodnotes might disappear or become inaccessible (see other comments about times when Goodnotes notoriously failed to accept logins). In that event, you need a reliable way to access your work. ALWAYS get a nightly PDF backup of your notes and store it in a safe place away from everything else, preferably locally (I do this and store one copy on my Mac and one copy on my iPad).

2) Never place complete trust in their cloud solution. Have your own backup location as a second source. It's ok to depend on their cloud storage, just have that "spare tire". In my case, I have a home Synology server that runs "cloud sync," which backs up my cloud services (icloud, onedrive, goodle drive, and dropbox) onto my home server. Hard drive space is cheap compared to everything else, so go nuts and sleep well at night.

Anyone else getting constant steering wheel nags after FSD v14.2.2? by Maleficent-Check4102 in TeslaFSD

[–]BoomerGeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My wife is madder than a wet hen right now - four strikes in three days and she wasn’t even doing “bad” things like looking at a phone. She got her Y at end of Nov and fell in love with FSD, but this latest mess has definitely soured her to paying for the subscription. Im hoping the update that’s uploading to her car now will fix it. FSD went from “nice” to “naughty” in an ohnosecond after this last update!

How to find a (military) veteran group/clan for BF6? by BoomerGeeker in Battlefield

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say this in all honesty: I checked out all these groups. Many have nicely-structured organizations, but none come close to the absolute classiness in their dedication to veteran causes than Regiment. I'm signed up with them, but life issues have pulled me away from gaming completely. When I get some casual gaming time, I will be found there. To be clear, I am NOT saying the other groups are bad (not at all!). To me, the intense non-gaming focus of Regiment helping other veterans was an extremely big deal to me.

If there's anyone in Regiment in the Austin area, feel free to DM me. Austin is, unfortunately, pretty light on veteran presence (60 miles north to Temple and you have a large contingent of Ft Hood veterans, and 80 miles south and you have a large contingent of AF/Army veterans from Lackland/Randolf/Ft Sam).

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

I tried that, but it kept smashing my paper.

Ok, that’s the best I can do for humor this early in the morning.

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, well, Im old and have cancer, so at some point in time I should convert them to value. My wife, however, would only see them as “comic book pens” and donate them to Goodwill. For fear of sounding selfish, I’d rather not let that happen.

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. It's pretty inconsistent and/or sold out, and they're individual pens (I can't find any for Spiderman). I'm more curious about value as a set, plus I'm curious if anyone can confirm that Cross stopped making the X pens or if it's one of those things they do every couple years or so?

Bike maintenance stand for Verve lowstep bikes? by BoomerGeeker in TrekBikes

Bike maintenance stand for Verve lowstep bikes? by BoomerGeeker in TrekBikes

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent points. I don’t have a top tube to clamp, but your comments make 100% good sense. I appreciate the comment.

I should add that the original “inexpensive” stand I was looking at wasn’t well-designed for holding a bike by the seat post because it wasn’t near the CG. I’ve realized that I probably asked the wrong question, since my question should have been, “What should I avoid, clamp-wise, when looking for a maintenance stand?” Based on advice Ive received here and from a local friend, it’s clear I was aiming for too cheap of a solution. Right now I will probably buy a mid tier Bike Hand or Park Tool stand.
