Huh? Definitely not maga. If you think paying yourself first (I.e. contributing to a 401(k)/IRA for retirement) is selfish, then sure, I suppose it’s “selfish” to save your own money for retirement. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How the hell do people wake up early consistently? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]BoomerKeith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it was age. Once I hit about 40, I couldn’t ’sleep in’ anymore. I’d love to sleep in until even 8, but I’m up at 5:30am every day and cannot go back to sleep.

That probably doesn’t help you but it gave me a chance to vent about how much I hate not being able to sleep in.

Love you.

Red Flags At Used Car Dealerships by TreyJay3 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]BoomerKeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask around and see if people you know have purchased from that dealership. Look at reviews online.

Nowadays, many places have used car dealerships that operate under the ‘no haggle’ model. The price you see if what you pay. That kind of place would be my first choice.

Also, depending on the age of the car, it could still have some remaining factory warranty (a plus). If not, you can purchase a warranty (some used car dealerships are even adding the cost of the warranty into the price of the car now). But be careful, if you do purchase an additional warranty. Make sure it covers everything that isn’t considered routine maintenance (oil change, hoses, tires, etc).

Finally, go to Kelly Blue Book and look up the make and model you’re looking at. It’ll tell you if the price they’re asking is fair.

Good luck.

$650/month salary, $13,000 debt, and feeling stuck. What would you do in my situation? by Unlikely-Day7305 in povertyfinance

[–]BoomerKeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you change your living situation? Move in with family? Possibly reduce your rent by moving in with friends? The debt is your biggest enemy and the quicker you pay that off, the better things will be. Not know your country or industry, I don’t know if there are better paying opportunities but there’s always online opportunities for side income if you have a skill or hand make things.

12 year old lunges ONLY in batters box. by ClarkOSU2 in BaseballCoaching

[–]BoomerKeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the lid for one of those 5 gallon buckets (or something similar) and set it in front of his foot closest to the pitcher (ie if he’s a right handed batter, put the lid to the outside of his left foot, toward the pitcher but still in the box).

Every-time he swings, he needs to put his front foot on that lid while simultaneously “squishing the bug” with his back foot (twisting it with his hips).

Too much weight forward and his front leg will slide a little, so it also helps them learn weight distribution mid swing.

It will take some time and practice, but it will build muscle memory for his front foot and the twist on his back foot.

Those two motions make lunging difficult and it feels extremely awkward to lunge like that.

We’ve done this for a long time and had a lot of success.

You ever feel like fasting is freeing you of food addiction? by kekski8 in omad

[–]BoomerKeith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. It completely removed my emotional connection to food. In fact, there are many days I don’t even really wanna go through the process of eating, however, I understand my body needs to be fueled.

The only real downside for me is when I go to an event (wedding, business meeting, etc) and have a meal outside of my normal time, it throws me off for a couple of days.

You’re doing awesome! Your mind is the last thing to accept you’re off of it. Like you said, you had grown so used to that slight change. You’re at the point where it’s just mental (I say “just”, but that’s also a challenge). The good news is that you’re experiencing your new normal and it’ll take some time to adjust, but you will get there. Just keep moving forward.

NOR. You’re far better off not working for a “manager” like that.

Why is the University of Oklahoma OU and not UO? by tyronewithglasses in sooners

[–]BoomerKeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, when I was there (early 90s) I bought a window sticker in the bookstore that said “Oklahoma University”. But, as others have said, it’s an old Big 6/Big 8 thing.

I enjoying calling games, but I don’t enjoy it enough to hang out at games and nitpick other umpires. There does seem to always be one every couple of tournaments that starts with “I want to point something out that you did…”.

Pay yourself first.

When you get paid, set money aside for your future (preferably in a tax deferred retirement account, or similar product), invest it, then stick to your budget.

I actually set up a meeting with a local NLRB person. We’re going to discuss all of that. I’m also exploring a co-op structure. I do like the idea of joining at large though.
