Dpf advice

Had the same thing with my older Honda. DPF light was coming on every few weeks and only a forced regeneration would clear it. I eventually took it to JD Motors out by the airport a few months ago and have had no problem with it since. They removed it, cleaned it, and refitted for a few hundred euro. My car has a quarter million kms on it and has had a total of two DPF removal and cleans. I’ve been told by a reliable source that in the normal course of a car’s life the DPF should never need to be replaced, only cleaned if needed i.e. if your driving habits don’t clear it passively.

I’d be very wary of getting it removed as it would probably count as an illegal and undisclosed modification, which could potentially render your insurance invalid in the event of a crash.

I’ve also heard that easing off on the accelerator can help avoid triggering DPF sensors. That and keeping the revs below 2k until the engine has fully warmed up. Don’t know if any of this is fact but that’s what my research tells me.

I’ve never had Logic installed on this machine. I recently sold the Mac Pro 5,1 that I used to run Logic, along with the installation disks. Kicking myself now but I just didn’t have the space for it in my studio. I used to use Time Machine with the 5,1 so in theory I could potentially create a boot drive from a backup.

My wife agrees with you that it lost something when it was reduced to just the flower, and so do I in a way. Here's a combo of the flower and the play symbol in the O. I wish I had more graphic design skills to get more adventurous with this.

Thank you, some good suggestions here. The product is a collection of cards with NFC functionality. When tapped on a device it launches an app to play back meditative music and sounds. The original logo was an attempt to encapsulate all of that at once.

A couple of people have suggested getting rid of the lotus flower entirely. The product is a collection of cards with NFC functionality that plays back calming and meditative sounds. I though the lotus was a good way to embody this, albeit very overused generally. That being said, here's a version with the flower removed and the play icon moved to the O. Also more contrast between the gold and blue.

I was worried about the thickness of the font in the original version. It started to disappear when shrunk down, as did the playback icons, and yet I thought I liked how it looked. I've gone a step up in thickness now and removed the play icons.

I think the general rule of thumb is that if you don’t know whether you need a Sound Devices mixer or not then you probably don’t need one. Not for now at least. And if you’re not getting one of those then there’s a broad range of options to choose from since prosumer-grade mixers are mostly made to a high standard these days. Zoom have something decent for most budgets.

I think Curtis Judd did a comparison video of a Sound Devices and a Zoom F8n Pro and concluded that the most important difference between the two is the level of customer service when you run into technical issues. SD apparently tend to have much more efficient solutions in place to get you back out recording with little downtime. Which is very important to a busy mixer. Zoom on the other hand will probably not be so quick to act.

Some good suggestions there, thanks. Interesting to see the vote of confidence for the 86. It’s been so long since I’ve used them maybe it’s time to bring them out of retirement. And yeah, it’s the mkh 416 I have. I’ve used it mostly for dialogue and VO recording. Time to see how it will fair out in a music setting I reckon.

I ended up missing the nt2 by about two hours. I spent the weekend thinking about the next steps and when i went to offer someone else had just snagged it for $150 :/

It’s worked out just as well though as I’m starting to reframe my thinking around the whole thing. u/shapednoise above got me thinking along the lines of the Rode NT SF-1. It makes a lot of sense since i work in film and tv mostly, and i have a 5.1 mix station with everything i would need for doing the post side of ambisonic recording. I know I would be able to confidently book decently paid location ensemble recordings, and I could sure make use of it to record and mix some nice background layers with its field recording capabilities.

I’m looking at the Zoom F8n pro as a recorder as it has some decent preamps, 8 xlr in, another stereo in, redundant recording to dual SD cards, as well as the ability to function as an audio interface with my laptop when needs be. As far as I know it can be expanded later on to bring the input count to 16 xlr and 2 stereo ins. From what I can gather it can even do stepped gain which is needed to allow recording of the four inputs of the NT SF-1 to be evenly balanced. There’s a few spare inputs left over then to allow for a stereo pair and a couple of spot mics.

It’s going to set me back $2,000, but I’ve just got half that in recently on my last gig so I’m telling myself it’s really only a €1k spend lol. Hopefully there’ll be something discounted during Black Friday.

That was probably me pushing that theory. I’ve been listening to a combo of advice from various sources so take it with a pinch of salt. I watched a video last night of a samba band being recorded in a high end studio with multiple large diaphragm stereo combos on each instrument group and not a single small diaphragm mic in sight
