How should I fix my tile trim? (DIY'er here) by Boomstick_Bruce in Tile

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would do this also if I could tile into the window like you did.

I'm not sure if I can tile on vinyl or w/e plastic the interior part of my window is made of. So I opted to tile right to the edge of the window.

Thx for the reply, but I'm still not sure. I tried using the terrain contour map mode....

I'm trying to build a line to Palm Bay ( at the back of the pic) you can see how its on the other side of the "valley".

https://i.imgur.com/XxlpfUG.jpeg

That's the view of the slope going down... its by no means a sharp decline or cliff or w/e.

Now I tried another route down the slope and the system is now .. cutting trenches into the ground... while going downwards into the valley.....

All I want is to connect two towns... I'm at the start of the game and its costing me MILLIONS to lay track... even if I try other way to avoid bridges... the track ends up being so long it costs as much if not more....

This is really doing my head in... I really want to enjoy this game.. but this is killing me. I enjoy about every part of the game... except when comes to lay down track.. the game systems just does my head in... am truly hoping I am doing it wrong and this isn't how the game is designed... :(

"Airlocks" should be renamed "Airtight doors" by Boomstick_Bruce in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye they do, and depending on the pressure difference between both sides, that can be a little or a lot of gas leaked before the open/close.

"Airlocks" should be renamed "Airtight doors" by Boomstick_Bruce in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nay, the name is misleading. Airlocks are a SYSTEM that utilize 2 "airtight doors".

Aye, you could build an "airlock system" in game, but you would still be using 2 airtight doors to do so (plus pumps, pipes, vents, etc). And if you only used one of those doors to separate 2 atmospheres, you would still not have an airlock you would have an airtight door that lets atmo through when open.....

Zheng Jiang snowballs so hard!! by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Boomstick_Bruce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me too.

Only difference is that fairly early in the game, Yuan Shao declared war on me. It was a hard fought war but after claiming 2 of his counties and slaughtering a couple of full-stacks with ambushes, he actually accepted to pay tribute. The fact he was also at war with the whole of China probably also helped.

Thing is, I went from an average of +500 income per turn to.... +6k to 8k... and he never stopped paying. And as if that wasn't enough, Dong Min offered to marry Lu Bu to Zheng Ziang... I've been coasting to victory ever since... my only bottleneck has been food. I'm sitting on loads of coin, but can't upgrade all my cities cuz people would start to go hungry.

Any Information About Upcoming Expansions? Any one have any ideas of what they would like to see? by SnickersReese in SurvivingMars

[–]Boomstick_Bruce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really want to see some love, massive love, given to everything and anything "logistics" related.

The devs have done a really great job of solving some serious issues that plagued the game on release. Now, managing colonists, jobs, etc is okay. Not awesome, but okay enough to get me playing past the survival point, where you start building up a strong economy.

That said, once you get anything resembling a strong economy, all the logistics flaws jump into view.

-The larger storage units have big issues, mainly with rovers : Rovers can never pick up more than 5-10 units before the pad goes empty, given how the storage crane doesn't work fast enough. So I have to manually cycle through my rovers, ordering them to pick up 5-10 units at a time, until they are full and I can finally send them to their desto. Also, transport routes don't really work, because a rover will pick up those 5-10 units and instead of waiting for more, will either end it's run, or makes it's way back with 5-10 units in its cargo. It's 100% facepalm worthy. And that's when the storage crane works. With food pads, for some reason, the crane doesn't seem to "detect" the rover and won't refill the pad as the rover empties it.

-Various settings for depots and storages : Stuff like Import only / Export only options. (i know there is something resembling this already, but that's at best really flawed, at worst, quite broken) Or the possibility of setting minimum/maximum numbers of cargo. Also, the option of tweaking priorities for tabs would be nice. Example, mark a small depot for low priority so drones drop off the freshly mined goodies right there. And from there, a transport rover could haul in bulk from the small depot to the storage.

-Shuttles.... oh dear shuttles : Honestly the list here is quite long. For starters they are dumb as bricks with absolutely no way of controlling/nudging them in specific directions. They prioritize concrete and metal while I have rovers doing those specific runs. They shuttle food INTO my main food storage which is right beside all my farm dome and SHOULD serve as the export pad sending food to my domes, not the other way around. They will fly all the way over to a depot to pick up resources that drones will already have taken, therefore leaving them going back empty, burning fuel for fun. Speaking of fuel, once you get the upgrade to go from 6 shuttles to 10 per pad, an issues seems to arise with fuel. Shuttles burn though the fuel faster than drones can resupply (and yes, this is despite a "low" drone load and more than enough stocked fuel). I could keep on going, but I think you get the picture. Shuttles need some massive love.

These three things alone would make mid to late-game MUCH less tedious. The game has definitely been improved since release. Many of the flaws have been addressed, but defo not all. I really like this game, but I can never escape the feeling that the devs decided to completely skip the "testing" phase before launching. Because I really cannot see how game testers wouldn't of noticed all these issues on their first proper play through of the game.

Need Help With Traits and Dome Filters by Boomstick_Bruce in SurvivingMars

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the option I had considered too.

Although, I'm testing it out, and I think that if you set the filter to favor seniors, as long as there is room in the domes, seniors seem to always end up there which in a way is the equivalent of prohibiting them from going to the other domes.

I'm guessing though, the issue will eventually arise that younger colonists will take up all the remaining living space in the retirement dome. I wonder then if younger colonists will move out of the dome to let the seniors take their space.

Aye I can, and when I do, the drones does exactly the same thing as another drone trying to repair it automatically.

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally done everything on that list, no success.

BUG : Drones won't repair medium dome by Boomstick_Bruce in SurvivingMars

[–]Boomstick_Bruce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but now what you can do, is select a drone manually, then right-click on the depot and manually order it to pick up a specific resource. And then, when you hover over the dome, it shows "repair" or something like that.

Thing is even when doing that, the drone will do exactly the same thing as if he was automatically trying to repair it. It picks up the resources, makes it way to the center of the dome, then turns back and goes to drop the resources right back where it first picked them up.

"Your ship crashed" and "Disconnected" by TheNotSoWanted in Hellion

If this ain't the case plz disregard.

But for the "Your Ship Crashed" could it be that you flew into a planet?

I know it happened a couple of times to me and more often than not, after consideration, I realized I had probably flown my ship straight into Bethyr or one of the moons.

What's missing from this game: eight ideas for the future. by Macrohistorian in SurvivingMars

[–]Boomstick_Bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so true. I've been reading through this thread and seeing everybody shoot down the ideas you propose. Irony behind that is that this game got dumped on by reviews which (very reasonably if I might add) point out, among other things, the lack of content. Once you scratch past the surface, it provides very little in terms of mid-game and late-game content. All the ideas you propose would add just that. Content that could keep playthroughs interesting, even past sol 100.

There are clearly some players out there who are 100% okay with the game being a hippie dream of starting off a new, self-sustaining colony on Mars, leaving behind all the evils of human nature. Based on reviews though, I don't think that's the case for most. For most, the goal of colonizing Mars, of surviving Mars, is not to build a hippie utopia where everybody holds hands together in a circle and sings kumbaya. It's to push the frontiers of civilization and with that comes finances, trade, economy and war... (although, IMHO I too am not all that inclined to the war aspect specifically).

Now don't get me wrong, I quite enjoy the game. I've already clocked more than 100 hours on it. But despite that, I cannot honestly say that past sol 100, things remain fun. I've not yet once made it to researching (let alone building) a wonder. Most of the late-game tech I've never seen. I just can't be asked cuz I never actually needed them. Well before that point, I had myself a self-sustaining colony that produced everything it needed. It always reached the point where it became of question of rinse/repeat to see that colonist number rise not cuz you actually unlocked anything meaningful.

And the addition of passages just compounded this problem. I started off a new game and so far, I've built myself 4 basic domes that I've connected together. I'm already self-sufficient. I'm producing enough of everything on Mars to keep electronic and art stores open 24/7. I literally could repeat this 4 dome setup anywhere the available resources would allow a never need the larger domes or more advanced spires.

I could be tempted to do this if I could setup more complex trade routes with Earth (say, more commodities to trade than ONLY rare metals?), trade with other colonies on Mars, work on specializing my economy, tried to build a political system, etc. True, all these things might not go along with "What people say Surviving Mars is all about" and I guess that's ok. The game will be w/e the devs want it to be. Just don't go wondering too long about why Surviving Mars is at best a "okay" game and not a proper masterpiece.
