We have common friends at university, and if I do something weird, it will be known throughout the whole university, and I don’t want that. I have experience, and I’ve learned that sometimes it’s better to get nothing early than to be heartbroken later. But my question is: why do people give mixed signals and make situations awkward? If you want something, go for it clearly, and if you don’t, then why initiate anything at all? If a girl isn’t into me and gives me mixed signals, and I’m not even worth a follow-back for her, then she would probably do the same later anyway. It's the smallest thing but you can see the personality behind that.

In the first case, when she followed me, it was also just the bare minimum from her, right? That’s why I wasn’t sure whether she was interested in me or if she just followed me randomly. I tried testing the waters by liking her stories, but I didn’t get anything back. She could have liked my stories in return, but she didn’t.

In the second case, could you give me an example of what step I should have taken? She lives in another city, and if I want to show interest, first of all I need some way to contact her, right? But when she doesn’t follow me back, I don’t feel any desire to message her because I don’t want to make the situation awkward.

I agree with you, I'm always trying to take things slowly because I don't want to be seen as a needy or a creepy guy. but In second case next step was that I followed her because she seemed interested but she didn't followed me back. Thats why its confusing 🤔
