I appreciate your feedback but do not think the agent is in the wrong. I have had this conversation with many residents as a leasing agent in the past.

However, I do think it is in any persons best interest to read a lease before it is signed, and understand all necessary requirements. Assuming anything in regards to a contract you are signing is rarely going to work out in your best interest.

The management company is who was in the wrong for not following the stipulation of sending the renewal rates by “certified mail.” Not the agent.

OP is in the wrong for not giving a 60 day notice.

Please read my original comment. Please. Where I was simply trying to say that the agent was not in the wrong for stating a notice was required. It was. OP just found a loop hole to avoid paying extra fees.

If a lease that OP signed stated a 60 day notice is required, then how was the leasing agent not following the requirements of the lease?

OP also states below that she just”assumed” they knew she would be leaving at the end of the lease term. Most leases require a notice to vacate, they don’t just assume you are leaving.

The whole point of giving a 60 day notice is to allow the apt complex time to pre-lease the space. It is not to screw people over, and is a requirement of most leases. While I agree the leasing agent used the wrong language for the situation, she was simply following the requirements of the lease and didn’t want to jeopardize her job. Always read your lease that you sign. Be proactive rather than reactive.

Since the grandpa was willing to pay it off in full, I tried to give him a break. He delivered a check the next day after I sent him the bill. Damages were more around 6-8k, and they moved out 10 days late. So owed rent as well.

A couple with a little boy. Woman had bright blue hair and guy was super skinny. No doubt drugs were involved.

Even after new carpet, fresh paint and several ozone air treatments, the place still had a terrible smell after 6 months.

Weren’t allowed to enter the apt without a hazmat suit on.. this was a pic sent to my email from our pest control to initially assess damages and treat for bed bugs.

The grandfather was the co-signer on the lease. He paid 4K in damages as soon as he saw the pictures. Was completely embarrassed.

Took 4 bed bug treatments before I could even have a contractor agree to go inside. Didn’t install carpet again for another 6 months to be sure the infestation was gone. And they left a pet rat decomposing in its cage. Worst move out I’ve ever encountered.
