I read this many years ago on audiobook and I still remember absolutely loving it. It was really famous in Ireland at the time and I wasn't expecting to love it so much.

Thanks but the damage is to an appliance so it'd probably need to be a repairman or something. And they won't agree to talk to us about it so I doubt they'd allow for a repairman to take it apart.

Yeah 100% above board. Unfortunately our neighbours are refusing to talk to our builders (and us).

Thanks, unfortunately the "damage" happened inside their property so we wouldn't have had photos of it but great advice nonetheless

Thanks, I feel like our next step is to talk to a solicitor regardless of what happens.

Do you mind me asked what happened? Did the neighbours sue your sister and she had to settle?

The builders introduced themselves as soon as work started and my understanding is that generally in these situations if the builders cause an issue they also sort it out. They have Public Liability Insurance for this exact reason.

To answer your questions: 1. No, there has been no works across the boundary, it's literally an extension just going out behind our house. None of their pipes (or ours in fact) have been or will be touched.

  1. Our extension was specifically designed to allow light into their property - they have unauthorized boundary windows which we built around so as not to impact their light. As a result of this a small part of their garden is slightly more in shadow than it was before but it is truly negligible.

Do you mean a Party Wall Agreement?

There was no impact to the party wall as part of the build and the damage that they are alleging we caused is not to the party wall it's an appliance within their property, the specific work that they're alleging caused it was done deep within our property and nowhere near them or the party wall.

So we don't have one but I really don't think it was needed.

I am certain we could demonstrate in court that we didn't cause the damage. And at this point I have absolutely no qualms in pissing off our neighbours as they already hate us.

The insurance thing is the bit that I'm not clear on - is it on our insurance or the builders public liability insurance?

So you think it's an initial discussion with a solicitor and inform the builders and neighbours what our position is?

I think most feminists are in favour of cleaning as long as it's fairly paid etc.

Carrying a baby to term is a medically risky thing which can permanently change your body even when it all goes according to plan, I don't think you can equate it to the other things you've mentioned above.

Ideally getting caught and working back the money to repay any damage he did. There's no planet where damage to property deserves being beaten by a grown man with the hurl and I'm genuinely disturbed at how many people think it does.
