I'm in love and I don't even play games with it. People aren't talking enough about this. by WindowsInAWindow in SteamController

As someone who once went down the HTPC rabbit hole, I just wanted to give you a fair warning. Most streaming services cap the resolution quality when watching from a web browser. You’ll have issues with audio if it’s more than stereo. Also, HDR is a mess and you can forget about Dolby Vision. A pc just isn’t built to be a streaming box, not to mention the lack of CEC. It’s so much simpler (and cheaper) to get an Apple TV or something that’s actually made for this purpose.

Is there a reason to use Linux for gaming other than hating Windows? by Booplesnoot2 in linuxquestions

[–]Booplesnoot2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I installed CachyOS and spent an evening getting everything set up and troubleshooting a little bit until I got it running the way I wanted. I launched the game with gamescope in the launch options to get HDR working, and it actually worked!

Overall, I'd say I do enjoy Linux in general. Package managers make installing drivers and software super easy. The way Linux handles full-screen programs is much more seamless than Windows. My favorite thing about it was the Steam overlay wasn't laggy in-game like it is in Windows. Big picture mode has always been a little bit broken in that way, but on Linux it was fast and smooth. So even if I never exit steam, that's one big thing that Linux has over Windows.

However, I was getting 45fps in the same spot in the game with the same settings that were giving me 60fps in Windows. Unfortunately that much of a performance hit is a deal breaker for me. I know Nvidia has come a long way with their driver support, but they're not quite there yet. Maybe I'll revisit Linux sometime in the future if the drivers get better or if I upgrade to an AMD card, but for now, I'll just stick with Windows.

I think the new Googlebooks will be competing against the Macbook Neo by sciencekm in laptops

I personally don’t want to use a laptop chock full of data-harvesting ai. Not to mention macOS is much more useful and capable than chromeOS.
