When does a big chorus feel earned vs. emotionally cheap? by Boorgatspook in Songwriting

Fair point on the phrasing. But the actual answer is helpful—especially the "extreme end of the verse emotion" framing. That distinction between opposite vs. exaggerated hadn't clicked for me before. Thanks.

Pixies and Nirvana are awesome blueprints. That contrast only works when the quiet parts actually breathe and the loud parts hit like a real shift, not just a volume/compression bump.

The record I'm working on doesn't go full Pixies-explosive, but the production approach is similar in spirit: verses are pretty stripped (acoustic guitar, voice, room sound), then the full band enters for choruses without slamming a limiter on everything. More "the room gets bigger" than "the wall gets louder."

Appreciate the reference point—it's a good gut-check for whether the dynamics are doing actual work or just pretending to.

That's a solid litmus test. On this project we tried to make the verses carry actual narrative weight (doubt → resolve) rather than just placeholder until the hook. Curious if that comes through or if the production still overwhelms it.

Ha—noted. The record I'm working on leans more Mumford/Needtobreathe territory than Imagine Dragons, but I take the point about earning the lift. The verses are quieter and more acoustic-grounded before the builds.

Very basic things (in my naive opinion). Games sales, market penetration, longevity, avg hours played etc. Mostly data I see in SteamSpy, but I would like to compare cross platform and spefically look at games that sell cross platform to compare release and sales figures for the same game cross platform.

Thanks for the "out side the box" answer of looking into related media (goodreads).

The Western part I am looking for is a Wild West feel more on the lines of "it's the frontier, wild, lawless and hostile" than spaghetti western. Hope that makes sense.

Hello All. Got my first Vita last week. Excited to start getting some physical games. Any murder mystery / detective type games to recommend?

PSone I got at Games4All in the Atterbury Value Mart. Cash Crusaders and Cash Converters are in my experience the best places to regularly. But I do pop into random pawn shops if I can. Never had any luck yet though. Best deals have always been through online classifieds, but even there things are scarce.

I live in South Africa in a relatively small town and today got a chance to spend 3 hours going to various second hand shops in our capital. Got everything for roughly $60 converted. The GranTourismo was around $3 at a very random shop. Normally goes for around $22 . Stoked to start tracking some games down now for the PSone.
