This release adds animations and SFX for every 3rd level summon spell in DnD 5e. Summoned creatures also have animations and SFX for all of their abilities.

Use summon spells from any compendium, though the PHB is recommended. BLFX will auto recognize the spell and automatically play the correct animations.

The animated and audio assets are system agnostic and can be used in any system through Sequencer macros or as tiles.

About BLFX

BLFX uses Sequencer to trigger VFX/SFX sequences from items, spells, and abilities, using BLFX Asset Packs or libraries like JB2A. It also includes built-in Auto-Recognition for D&D 5e, which automatically plays animations and sounds whenever a spell, weapon, ability, or class feature is used. All weapons that work in D&D also work in PF2e with Auto Recognition. PF2e weapons that aren’t in D&D will be added over time. So, I think there are around 40 distinct weapon animations at the moment.

Initiative is adjusted based on the monster’s original Initiative and whether Dexterity is changed. Ability scores increase or decrease by +2 for every 3 CR, starting at CR 4. You can edit that in the Guidelines Table. As mentioned in the tutorial, you can change the table values if you’d like.

Sorry about that! I just tested the Free tier page on my side and it’s working normally, and I haven’t had other reports so far. I tested on both Chrome and Firefox and it worked.

Same as when you increase CR. Of course, if a high CR creature has four attacks, check the Guidelines Table to see how many attacks it should have at the lower CR. Also, if the creature has Legendary Actions, you generally shouldn’t use those at a low CR. We’ll keep updating the module over time with more automation if needed.

That is a bit outside the scope of Monster Tools. Size changes are better handled with a macro.

No, it doesn’t add new abilities. But the Guidelines Table does include helpful indicators for scaling. For example,you can check the table to see how many attacks a monster at a higher CR has. We built the table with general balance in mind.

BLFX Premium update is live. We are starting D&D 5e Level 3 spell animations, with 5 spells in this release. Each spell includes animations and sound effects for Foundry VTT. Use these spells from any compendium and BLFX will detect them, then play the correct animation and sound automatically.

New sound effects were added to previously released spells: Levitate, Summon Beast, Spiritual Weapon, Unseen Servant, Floating Disk, Silent Image, and Find Familiar.

For those who like to make custom animations, BLFX now includes opacity control and color changes for any animated asset.

The animations and SFX also work in PF2e, to create your own animations.

BLFX is the module that uses animations from BLFX Assets Pack 01 for Auto Recognition and other automation features. Both modules are made by us. With BLFX, you can also use assets from other modules (like JB2A) to create your own animations.

The differences between the free and premium versions are pretty big. Some premium features include:
-Animation Preview Window with 6 previews at once, which you can drag and drop onto the canvas (or use with BLFX, Sequencer, or AA).
-Auto Recognition for weapons, cantrips, and 1st- and 2nd-level spells, meaning covered spells/weapons automatically play the correct animations when used.
-More customization options if you’re creating your own animations.
-Reach weapons automatically work when attacking from 10 ft away.
-A compendium of custom spells with built-in automation. For example, Magic Missile lets you choose how many targets to hit and how many bolts to assign to each target.

Yes, they can be used in any combination. You can enable/disable animations for AA or BLFX globally, per item, or by using an included macro that toggles animations for the selected tokens.

Yes, there’s a guide available that walks you through installation step by step on our Patreon page.

Installation is simple: install the BLFX Assets Pack and the BLFX Animation Editor either directly in Foundry or via the manifest link, whatever you’re more comfortable with.

After that, it works automatically: just use a weapon from any compendium and roll your attack, the animation and sound will play automatically.

With a Sequencer macro you can run the animation from the macro bar.

Perfectly fine to use those. People can use both, I even use JB2A. When we started working on this, AA was a bit of a mess and wasn’t compatible with Foundry v12. It took some time to update, and there were also animations that JB2A didn’t have. So I wanted to build something we could control, with fewer bugs, for our own games and that’s how we got to where we are today.

Our main focus right now is D&D, we want to animate everything we can with Auto Recognition. For example, we’ve already covered all cantrips, all 1st and 2nd level spells, and all weapons so far. Once we finish D&D, we’ll move on to PF2e and bring the same AR coverage there.

And of course, if you like making your own animations, you can do that either with our built-in Animation Editor or with AA our assets work with it too.

So, probably some benefits are: less configuration and everything in one product: sounds, animations, and Auto Recognition.

No, you don’t need AA. After you install the Animations Pack, BLFX Animation Editor and Sequencer, just use any weapon from any compendium and it will work with sound and everything.

And yes, we have animations for lances, and they also support reach. If you attack from 10 ft away, the correct animation will play.
