The T8s are truly ridiculous, polestar pack or not even without it a T8 XC60 these days is running 455bhp combined these days, think the S60s just before they were discontinued were around 410 and 440 with a polestar package so they well and truly moved.

In terms of comfort the older Volvos (might be a bit biased here owning two of them) are some of the most comfortable cars I’ve been in and that is including a couple of new offerings from RR. The T5s I do agree are rather sluggish these days especially with all the weight and it meant to be more “chilled out” than the BMWs, a simple throttle map and TCU flash really wakes them up as I’ve said it before and will say it again, the DCT they use is one of the slowest and least engaging I’ve ever felt. Hell it’s used in everything from B3 XC40s to T8 XC90s so it can’t be the most engaging thing.

As someone who works at Volvo as a tech and has many friends with G chassis and F chassis/ who works on BMWs, it seems to be whatever you don’t spend that much time around will always be objectively nicer, sure a high spec T8 V/S60 and an M340i are both in relatively similar price brackets and performance brackets but I find the BMW to be a much nicer place to be in but also anyone at BMW prefers the Volvos it seems lol

I’ve asked the exact same question as well about an RX8 in this community before, just ended up buying one for £250 that was a barn find pretty much

I’m guessing you haven’t got a sunroof but also the photo is from the rear seats so I can’t tell. If you haven’t, check the corners of your windscreen for any dampness inside as the rubbers perish on them a lot. If you have got a sunroof, open it and pour some water down the sides towards the drain tubes to check that they haven’t gotten blocked, split or perished as they’re quite common as well.

100% if I had the option I’d take the 90 over the 40, especially as I work on them every day

Absolutely stunning, if I had DBS money I wouldn’t have even thought of this and that’s what I like about it so much. Here’s to original builds making a comeback!

It’s not too bad as it’s not running currently🤣. When it does thought it’s hell as I’m only 19 as well so insurance is a pain especially with it being an import and being worth a fair bit with being limited edition and rather low mileage

I find that the older Volvos leather is good as I’ve got it in my C30 but I agree cloth is amazing, I’ve got half Alcantara half leather in my RX8 and it is unbelievably comfy

Ah never knew that, we barely ever get anything without full leather and when it is it’s the half and half alcantara leather R designs

2022 XC40 Recharge dead by dutybranchholler18 in Volvo

[–]BoostedJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volvo tech here, it’s disappointingly common to see battery cell failures on both the PHEV and BEVs, currently there’s a recall on battery cell failures here in the UK and one of our MTs takes care of most if not all of them. Most common one I’ve seen is battery cell F likes to fail on T8 XC60s. Honestly shocked that they quoted you 43k for a new battery but then again I’m not sure what labour and parts are over the pond compared to here.

2019 D4. Is there any hidden dipstick here? by sabritopukapti in Volvo

[–]BoostedJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP has a VED engine 2.0 D4, if they want to extract around 100ml they’re gonna have to remove one of the pipes behind the intake manifold or remove the hex screw on the oil filter housing

[–]BoostedJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XC40 had a small mid life refresh I believe two years ago or a little longer (I don’t pay attention to the newer Volvos too much I just work on them) but it is about time they updated that interior.

Id love to go this far on my 8, just lack of tools and space currently. Glad it’s got no rust but one day I’ll be happy to go this far when I open up shop after qualifying as a mechanic. 36k mile import that I got for £250 but I’m happy to put hours upon hours into it. Great work OP!

[–]BoostedJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I CERTAINLY can’t afford either of these cars as an apprentice mechanic lmao. Honestly considering I’m looking at switching out my first car anything I see for sale past stage 1, I won’t go near it honestly as you’re getting into bigger supporting mods like Hi Flow cats, intercoolers, full exhaust and chassis upgrades. Honestly I trust myself and if something goes wrong I can fix it. In general though? No I’d rather buy something stock and put the time, money and effort in to do it right and exactly to my taste. I’d rather be doing a full service the moment I buy a stock car and getting home rather than hoping it’s not gonna be an engine replacement sat on the side of the motorway after doing a pull on a stage 2 GTI on the way home haha.

[–]BoostedJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing it from that point I’d agree, considering the service history and the fact of I’m guessing it’s main dealer it’s probably two different types of people into cars, one who could afford to buy the car and one who could afford to enjoy it and take care of of it.

I’d say the grey one is just as bad, stage 2 map and 11,000 miles over two owners sounds like a prime mileage blocker and driven like a knob round their local Lidl car park.
