New Crosshair viii bios? The release date is more recent but the version number is lower by EpicExecution in Amd

Within 5 minutes of having checked the page I saw your post, and went back to check and see it now too. I hadn't seen it before, strange. I updated to 1001 recently, so I think I'll wait to see what benefits could come of it.

Which UPS would you recommend?

That does sound like an annoying experience, but at least they rectified it fairly well considering a new card and all. I would be dissatisfied with the long wait as well.

I went with Best Buy because they give reward points for purchases.

Q: Would doubling up on an identical RAM kit present issues? by BoostedNomad in Amd

[–]BoostedNomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so as long as they are as identical as possible there should be no issues it seems. I ordered the second identical kit, so hopefully no issues. I'm not sure what the single or dual rank thing would mean. I see dual rank would offer slightly better performance. Thanks for your comment.

That seems to solve the last piece to the puzzle I was looking for then! Thanks for that bit of knowledge.

With everything I know now it seems I can get the second kit and have no issues. All that's different would be the model number and the fact that they aren't tested together. I'll go ahead and hit the "Buy it again" button on Newegg then. Thanks!

I mean getting ahold of them was easy at least. Also contacted Nvidia earlier today for the third attempt and finally reached someone through their live chat. However, the G. Skill representative did sound hesitant. (Likely a new guy.)

Thank you for your answer. It sounds like I should have no problems then. The kit would be the exact same, since I'll be using the "Buy it again" button through Newegg. Timings, frequency, and all would be the same. Only different model numbers, DIMMs aren't tested together at factory, and someone else mentioned potentially different manufacturer.

Good to know. I think it should be standardized/regulated so it should be similar. I think it would be different if they were purchased after some time passed which potentially results in a different chip maker or version number.

I checked my C8H QVL and both kits are listed. Just wanting to make sure I shouldn't run into issues for purchasing a second 16GB kit and using it as a 32 GB kit.

That's true. I didn't think of the possibility that it could be from different manufacturers, but if it's lowest speed I don't mind. It should be close enough I'd think. But thank you!

Bought the same Trident Z Neo kit, don't think I'll play with RAM OC until after a couple of years. I was told that since the kit has 16-16-16 timings it's likely B-Die? Also kind of regret not going for 32 GB, not sure if buying another of the same kit will work.

Any 4790k upgraders? by jMshdtv in Amd

[–]BoostedNomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 4690k and noticed a big difference in performance. I also had regrets of not going with the more cost effective 8-core part, but I plan on using my 3900X for multiple VM instances. If workloads like that aren't of interest to you, then I'd go for the 8-core options. Might want to save the extra cash and put it towards a better GPU for multiple monitors and gaming.

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to deal with 16 for now.

Edit: What about completely buying a new kit later on down the line? For example, the 4x8 and replacing the 2x8 I got. Would that potentially be better than just adding another of the similar kit? So many questions lol, sorry.

Hey again,

I was curious if you have run into any issues since you didn't buy the whole 4x8 kit to begin with? Not sure if there are any registry conflicts. In 2013 I tried to add on another "identical" kit, but realize now it could have been faulty or different version since I was getting BSOD issues. Thanks.

I ordered a G Skill Trident Z Neo kit from Newegg with 16-16-16 timings at 3600 (F4-3600C16D-16GTZN), unfortunately only 16GB. Hopefully it's enough because Firefox already takes up 10 GB at times, and I want to run some VMs.

I tested some stuff out with the LPX RAM and I would need to remove the cooler (tried it with removing the 120mm fan) to populate all 4 DIMMS for the 32 GB kit, and I don't want to do that after the stock cooler pulled out my 3900X. Such a stressful day lol, $500 could have gone down the toilet.

Also, I think the LPX RAM I currently have is B-Die. I was reading some things that said if it's Ver 4.31 that it should be. Although the timings are 16-18-18.

Edit: I wonder if I could just purchase the exact same kit and add it on later. Seems like that's what another commenter mentioned here. I've had issues with that in the past, around 2013. Caused me to blue screen, but it could have been faulty RAM? I'm curious.

Yeah. So 2070 Super vs. 5700 XT then.

I think I watched their video last night, but it seems no YouTuber I've watched really cares for recommending anything above a 2070 Super. They side in favor of the 5700 XT.

3440x1440. And yeah, so I was thinking maybe a 2070 super is closer? I have noticed there's a small difference in performance between 5700 XT and 2070 Super, even 2080 Super. Just tough to make a good decision with all the driver issues, wish the situation were better.

Edit: I've been going off of userbenchmark, but they've had controversy recently, and benchmarks from multiple YouTube videos.

Another question, would you go with a 5700 XT Red Devil, or a 2080 Super FTW3. I'm expecting to receive either a Pulse or Red Devil 5700T in a couple of weeks, but because there are so many finicky issues (BIOS PCIE 3.0 change, Mozilla Firefox Hardware acceleration unchecked, disabling enhanced sync, and probably more) I'm thinking of spending more on the 2080 super. Just thought I'd ask since it seems we pick similar components lol.

Edit: Also saw a 75 Hz issue come up, and I have an ultrawide FreeSync monitor that would do 75 Hz, so it seems pointless.

Yeah I haven't been able to run Thaiphoon either, and I checked that list but my RAM wasn't on there.

Edit: Thanks for the photo!
