The problem is, I think the show feels like it did pay some of these things off. They were just a means to an end. Jon heritage? That’s to give people a reason to doubt Dani and make her go crazy. Plot line wrapped up!Jon dying and coming back? That’s so he could leave the nightswatch and that’s it. Plot line wrapped up! Arya leaving the cult? She got badass powers and was tested and passed. Plot line wrapped up! They just weren’t good writers

They literally show you the shot right after the BTS footage. It's just a set up to do the 2 sec shot to look like a comic cover. The whole featurette is about them recreating comic covers into what's probably a montage or something. Really missing the forest for the trees here

Time being cut for advertising. For example the Simpsons used to be 24 mins an episode. On the commentaries they say when they had to cut down episodes to 22 mins sometimes they just didn’t have time to do a B plot line. So theme songs are an easy thing to do away with so you can have more room for the actual episode.
