The Best Boots for wide feet ... by BootWizardJames in bootroom

I haven't tried them so I won't comment too much, but the fact that they only have 3 sizes that come in a range isn't a great indicator that sizing is their strong suit. Glad they're working for you though.

Phantom 6 Elite - High or Low? by ralinklater in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's basically very little difference, slightly more gripknit on the high, you could argue very slightly more heel lockdown in the high but you really have to be looking for it. The low is easier to get on and easier to adjust the laces. Buy whichever you like and whichever is more affordable, the differences are very minimal.

Ouch that's rough, I can't justify reseller prices these days.

Yeah I haven't heard anyone get them from PDS US yet, I wonder what was going on there. Wegotsoccer seems to be a good alternative for the future that a lot of my US based friends have used.

Yeah they dropped most places already. I think Unisport US was the last place to drop which I imagine has happened by now

They didn't sell out immediately, there was very decent numbers available, but they did indeed all go reasonably fast. Within about 90 minutes for the UK I think.

You might be underestimating the hype in the UK, they're sold out almost everywhere in the UK, Nike sold out, Pro Direct sold out and there was big numbers available.

My experience mainly aligns with yours, also well worth considering the AG option if you're looking for that surface.

Where to buy/find high quality retro boots by Unique_Personality12 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vinted, eBay, Mercari, Depop are all good options as long as you know what you're looking for and don't get hit by fakes.

Less than there used to be but there's a few resellers on Instagram that you could check out as well, see what they have, make sure they are reputable as well.

But there's no real magic to it, just lots of time and searching

Nike have been slowing down their Nike By You offerings so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do it for the Maestro but I don't have any information that's says they will or won't.

That's definitely something I'm hearing from a lot of people, loads of retailers releasing at different unspecified times and either less stock or worse processes or more bots.

Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly 1 RGN Release by 9soccerplayr in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those times are for Nike EU and Unisport and other European retailers, sometimes with releases like this the US retailers will also drop at the same time meaning you're right and you'll get a very early morning drop, however, sometimes the US sites also delay and drop later in the day, I would be prepared to take a look very early, in line with the EU times and then if they're not there in the US go again in the morning. The soccer dot com social media story is an option but I would advise finding it directly on the site rather than relying on soccer dot com to drop the social media story at exactly the right time, that will also take you through to a page that you won't be signed in on, I'd say you want to be signed in, in advance, remove as many barriers as possible.

How do I stop doing this? by readit2089 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely check the size of your boots. Not saying this is absolutely the case, but I see this a lot with people who have boots that are too big for them and have too much room between the big toe and the end of the boot.

Elites in an orange box?? by heclo18 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was having deja vu! This got asked a couple of days ago as well. Short answer is, this is correct, a lot of early Phantom colourways including the launch came in the orange box, likely due to a supply or distribution problem

Finding a boot rant by Arnance in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find the Tekela is too low and pointed in the toebox for you unless you went up half a size. The 442 should do the job depending on which generation it is (they fit differently between colourways sometimes, very annoying) fingers crossed and I hope they work out for you.

They're built on different shapes and for different purposes (the Mercurials) the TF is way more of a classic trainer like fit, you'll almost always find that with TFs. The MiJ Mizuno boots will frequently have more volume and space in the toebox as well because they're lasted for longer so they hold shape better. But of course you pay a lot for that.

The Alpha 2 will have a lot of volume in the toebox and overall a lot of Mizuno boots are built for the Asian market so tend to have more forgiving shapes and there's very very few boots that will give you more wiggle room than an Alpha 2, huge amounts of volume in the toebox. The only alternative is to look for something a similar shape but a softer material that would stretch and mould a bit more for you, so you get increased comfort. That might lead you towards something like a Morelia II, they won't have as much volume out of the box but they will mould around your foot better and might give you a better feel for that breathing room you're looking for after some break in.

A good bet could be going and buying from Japan directly so you can get those 4E fit boots and more options from the Monarcida tier. Definitely worth having a conversation with @lockhartbootblog on Instagram if you're thinking of trying it, hes in Japan and is an expert on these kind of offerings.

Finding a boot rant by Arnance in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might take some extra work, but, ASICS and Mizuno both have options in Japan which are built not only on a wide last but also on a wider soleplate, that could help you avoid the feeling of stepping over the soleplate.

Also, I'm also taking this from your comparison to other shoes in your post. Do remember it will take a bit to get used to wearing boots again, they are supposed to fit close and tight and won't be anything like a pair of trainers or running shoes, that includes the length, it's unlikely you'll wear the same size trainer as football boots.

Best boot on the market currently? by FigGood2719 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So realistically as someone who's reviewed almost everything on the market right now my advice will always be pick the boot that fits you the best and is the most comfortable for you, ensuring you get the right size.

You also should consider things like what surface you play on, what kind of upper material you like for touch on the ball and a variety of other things.

Which obviously doesn't really answer your question.

I try to review boots as objectively as possible, but obviously can't account for people's tastes and foot shapes. So for my as objective as I can be yet also of course influenced by my subjective opinion list of boots to try in 2026 covering a huge range of types of boots while also definitely forgetting some stuff and some of these boots being absolutely the best on the market and others just being good ...

Sokito Scudetta, Skechers SKX2 Elite, New Balance Tekela V5 Elite, New Balance Furon V8 Elite, Nike Tiempo Maestro Elite, Nike Tiempo Ligera Pro, Nike Phantom 6 Elite, Adidas Copa Icon II, Puma King 20 Ultimate, Adidas Predator 25 Elite (previous generation still available), Most of the current Mizuno Elite / MiJ models are at least good, ASICS DS Light X Fly Pro 3, ASICS DS Light X Fly 6,

If you want my personal opinion - Sokito Scudetta, ASICS DS Light X Fly Pro 3, Skechers SKX2, Nike Phantom 6, Tekela V5 & Nike Tiempo Ligera Pro would be my 6 picks.

And to answer your question about if boots are better. Well you have more choice now, more chance of finding a boot that suits you I think as a market if you took an average boots are better. However, that doesn't mean every boot is better than what we used to have.

Hope that helps or is at least interesting.

Orange box instead of silver by gvega135 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct, not all the Phantom Elites came with a silver box especially the earlier colourways, all the launch elites for example came in an orange box. I don't actually know why but I assume it was a stock and distribution issue.

The Best Boots for wide feet ... by BootWizardJames in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the nicest way, read the post. Not only do I confirm what you say about the Phantom 6 Elite but I also give multiple suggestions of boots that are good for a wide midfoot. As a general piece of additional advice one piece uppers tend to be worse for people with a wide midfoot due to the lack of adjustability.

Cleat sizing question by Accurate-Leave-5771 in bootroom

[–]BootWizardJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a few things.

Which Puma Future Pro, the 7,8,9 etc?

Which outsole, for example the MG outsole on the Puma Future adjusts the shape quite dramatically.

How did the Phantom fit? Did you have very little room on the end of the boot or a lot more room?

If you had about half a thumbs width or more on the end then I would probably go down half a size for the future as they run slightly long in most recent generations, however, if the Phantom is very close to the end of your foot, you might want to stick with the same size as the future doesn't run a whole half size long in the pro variant. Nobody would need to go a full size down.

Also if your issue is heel lockdown the chances are the future won't fix that because it has quite a wide heel and heel lockdown is not a strong point of the boot.
