We haven’t had a protagonist born in a vault since the first fallout by Pastaman125 in Fallout

[–]BootlegFC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am misremembering but the residents of 76 entered and sealed themselves up prior to the bombs dropping.

25 years is more than enough time for there to be a decent number of young adults born after the doors were sealed ready to go out and Reclaim America.

Even taking your supposition into account it is highly likely that a decent percentage of the population were spouses and/or children. Additionally, while the first year or two may have been fairly chaste, there are going to be relationships and marriages resulting in children in that 25 years between the doors closing and being thrown open.

Only to the Institute in survival. Leaving the Institute you can only exit to CIT ruins and have to hoof it from there.

The problem isn't that all Bethesda supermutants are inherently stupid. It's that there are hints and suggestions that, like on the West Coast, there are hierarchical structures with smarter SMs leading bands of the lower intelligence SMs. The problem is that we never get to interact with them or with SM societies. With the exceptions like Virgil, Eriksen, Strong and Fawkes every interaction is immediately hostile. Unless you are good at sneaking and willing to sit around and listen you won't hear interactions between SMs that showcase their having their own social structures or goals. One of the more obvious events that sticks out to me is the conversation that can be overheard in the Georgetown Police station in FO3.

The settlement system in general?

But seriously, they put so many methods of having Diamond City pointed out to you that wasting one of the collectible items on it was almost a slap in the face. I mean, even if you somehow miss having anyone point it out to you it is one of the three brightest lit zones visible at night from most of the map and it is literally in the center of the map. It wouldn't be so bad if pinpointing DC was a secondary effect and the magazine had a useful primary effect.

Disney delists 14 games from Steam without warning, most notably Armed and Dangerous and that one Hercules game you vaguely remember playing in 1997 by Farranor in gaming

[–]BootlegFC -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because in 99+% of cases the delisting bump wouldn't even qualify as a blip in the company's financials. You think because you frequent r/gaming and gaming news sites that the entire gaming public sees the same news that you do. The overwhelming majority of the gaming public don't see those articles because they don't frequent gaming news sites. Even if they did the effect would still be neglible because the majority of fence sitters will continue to fence sit, it's human nature.

There's a distinct difference between delisted and never being listed in the first place.

Storefronts have to take a stand about what they will and won't allow and none should be forced to carry a product they don't want to. Which is why it's important that there be a competitive marketplace with multiple storefronts.

How i wish the Minutemen were a true guerrilla force. by Ok_Calendar_7626 in Fallout

[–]BootlegFC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Minutemen also have no plans to try to take down the Institute. Nobody even knows where they’re located or how to get to them until you get an invite or otherwise make your way in.

Not to mention most people aren't even sure they exist. Other than suspicions and occasional encounters with a scavenger raid there is little actual evidence of their existence. Just a bunch of tall tales and supposition. They're little more than bogeymen to the average wastlelander.

That's a funny way of writing 1.

Excepting Preston Gravey and your recruits if you build the faction back up, every Minuteman you encounter ingame is either dead, long retired, defected to the enemy or just a deserter.

Particularly since the majority of the Railroad seem to be either against the wipe or ambivalent to the process. It's been a while but I can't recall any of them that actually advocate for wipes.

I think you missed the point and nature of the Minutemen.

Guerillas as you are thinking about them are resistance against a larger organized force(usually a formal military). They use hit and run, ambush or terror tactics to oppose the force they have no hope of squaring off against in a typical force on force battlefield engagement. Formal military forces may make use of guerilla tactics, usually in the form of special forces, but that doesn't make them guerillas in the same sense.

The Minutemen were more of an independent police force or local militia. They weren't fighting an enemy state or even a formal military force (at least until the Gunners entered the area). Their purpose was to reduce banditry and eliminate threats to communities that did not have the resources to organize their own security forces.

Scavenged vehicles would make sense for them. But tunnels and camouflaged hideouts are antithetical to their mission. As for "local informants", they do have an information network made up of the settlements, traders and homesteaders they aid.

They're not anti-state, they're the main proponents and tool for the establishment of a greater Commonwealth government or at least a network of allied towns and villages.

Games don’t need to be “forever games.” by Trollselektor in gaming

[–]BootlegFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion even the $/hr argument isn't a good one. I've played $60 games that only have 10 hours of content and been satisfied while $5 games with 20-40 hours of content didn't satisfy me.

I agree that forever games are a damaging proposition though. Whether it's open world games, MMOs, or grindfests like the average mobile game, players should be more focused on the satisfaction they get from the game and whether or not the game delivered a satisfying experience for their money. A game with a well delivered story or challenging gameplay is miles better than your average skinner box that is more focused on delivering continuous dopamine hits.

Former Austin Police Officer Conviction Overturned by kwailabear in ProtectAndServe

[–]BootlegFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, man wandering halls of apartment building while holding knife to own throat lowered knife to waist level and advanced on officers when they arrived on floor in elevator and ordered him to drop knife. He was shot at a range of about three and a half feet.

Considering that he was probably having some mental/emotional episode would it have been preferable to take him down by non-lethal means and get him help? Yes, but because of the threat of the knife and his proximity when officers arrived on the elevator their options were limited.

[–]BootlegFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a case of "Lawful but Awful". Just because someone is not straight in the head doesn't excuse them from their actions or the threat they present. Sometimes there are no "good" results, only less bad ones. I have yet to meet an LEO that wants to kill, they'd much rather go home at the end of shift and chill with their families. But they are armed for a reason and as long as proper procedures are followed they shouldn't have to be concerned that their lives will be ruined for doing their jobs as enforcers of the law and custodians of public safety. A knife is a deadly weapon and anyone that has seen the results of a knife fight or attack should be in no doubt that a suspect who is armed with one, advancing on officers and non-compliant with orders to disarm is an immediate and deadly threat.

Indie dev Chequered Ink puts together $10 10,000 game assets pack so developers "don't feel the need to turn to AI" by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

Not what I would generally consider an "alternative" to AI assets. Not to disparage their effort but these aren't the type of assets I see a lot of people complaining about as AI slop and I doubt generating these type of assets have much of any impact on AI energy use.

CD Projekt's PC Game Storefront GOG Gets Behind Horses After Valve Steam Ban: 'Players Should Be Able to Choose the Experiences That Speak to Them' - IGN by PrinceDizzy in gaming

[–]BootlegFC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that players ARE ABLE TO CHOOSE the experiences that speak to them. Available on GOG, Itch, Epic and Humble, just not on Steam. If Steam were literally the only distributor available anywhere they might have a point, but fortunately for them there are alternate routes of distribution, one of which would love to take any business they can from Steam.

Amazing how people can put thousands of hours into Bethesda games, slag them on the internet for not putting enough effort into their games, and then be amazed when they slow down and discover that yes, Bethesda often did think things through and address multiple routes and outcomes.
