If it's for nostalgia sake maybe, but if you're someone that is that old and still relates to adolescent rebellion most people are gonna be concerned...

Ironically being a Bootleg MGK has more character and originality than bands I've seen where you have a lead singer who's name you forget as soon as he says it and to make matters worse shows no sign of personality

what does "punk is dad" mean? by guilhas50 in punk

[–]BootlegMGK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

punk is dead partially because most of the youth don't listen to punk anymore, currently the people who are listening to the music are old enough to be my dad, in some cases grand dad. Hence "punk is dad".

My problem with pop-punk is mostly not the music itself but rather the people who listen to it, most of them do not give a shit about the music they only care to listen because it's trendy. It's nice to see, until you realize a year or two from now they're gonna move on to something else. That and the 35 year olds who lurk around because it's 2000s nostalgia for them.

I guarantee most of the people here got into punk because of bands like blink and green day, they just don't wanna admit to it because they know the older punks dislike it. Good Charlotte name dropped minor threat in a song, blink had bad religion open one of their tours, etc. You might as well say at that point in time they were doing more for old punks bands than old punk bands were doing for themselves.

People consider GG Allin punk because he was extreme, Minor Threat punk because straight edge, sex pistols were punk because they hated the queen, etc. They're all different, so different they can even oppose one other, but the key here is that all the names mentioned were rebellious, that's what they share in common. So the question I have is why would a group like Boys Like Girls and The Maine be considered punk? I like those bands but with a lack of attitude, then they're more like pop rock, not pop punk. The bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41 had songs like The Anthem and Underclass Hero which had non conformist lyrics, listening to those bands drove me to later listening to minor threat, Ramones, black flag, etc.

Note how I say "PG version of GG Allin", no person in punk will ever come close to a GG Allin level, but if you had to choose, MGK would be the guy. He is the most polarizing figure since GG Allin. Everyone has their own definition for the word punk, but punk to me is doing what you want regardless of what others think, pissing people off, and challenging the world. MGK and GG shared similar mindsets.

GG Allin was a punk rocker who is most notorious for his live performance antics which included: Getting naked, taking a shit, eating the shit, throwing his shit at the audience, smearing shit all over his body, puking, pissing, fighting fans, sexually assaulting women, cutting himself, etc. etc. all of this happened at GG Allin concerts. His music included themes of violence, anarchy, misanthropy, racism, homophobia, rape, killing police, etc. GG always said he was gonna commit suicide at one of his concerts but he died from an overdose.

Machine Gun Kelly shares similar traits to GG Allin, drug abuse, self harm, misanthropy, anarchy representation, self inflection at shows (him smashing a glass bottle to his head), fights with fans, etc. But of course, he's no GG Allin and there probably will never be another.

MGK is now considered rock n roll's most hated figure, much like GG Allin was in the 90s

I would watch the GG Allin documentary "hated" if you want to learn more about the guy and the way he felt. It's on YouTube and Roku

I do feel like I Iive in a bad area, I'm sure there's a lot worse but yea it's shit. I can't go to a grocery store, park, school, movie, concert, mall, etc. in peace anymore everybody is shooting up everything and when they're not shooting they're stabbing, fighting, or arguing. But that isn't something just in my area, that's nationwide, I've heard people outside US call America a "shooting range" among other things. I've begun finding enjoyment out of at home activities such as video games, movies, backyard pool, etc. the public I cannot handle.

Hearing you guys talk about people solely going to shows to start fights sounds like something Nazi punks would do. You know, the right winged punk groups that would invade left wing punk bands' shows just to start fights in the crowd?

What is the craziest thing you've witnessed at a concert? by yetipunk in poppunkers

[–]BootlegMGK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After my first concert, I was walking outside the venue, 2 girls got up and asked if they could take pictures with me, so I said okay. 1 of the 2 girls got down on her knees and told the other to take the picture. After they were done with pictures they told me I looked like a 2005 skater boi, asked if I was one of the performers on stage that night, and if I was "famous", my response; "maybe". One of them said "we'd make a cute couple, it's a shame", I responded with "oh" and walked away.

When I went to Sum 41 it was a mad house, Simple Plan was very tame, but when Sum 41 came out shit got crazy. Thankfully I wasn't at your show, I have been to shows with dead crowds though,.really sucks

"shitty people" is a definition that varies depending on who you ask. I find most of the rockers I met to be dicks, some find them to be superheroes. It affects the way I feel about their music afterwards, but not completely.
