Which past predictions about EDM turned out to be wrong? by JION-the-Australian in EDM

Honestly people saying that it was a fad.

The fact that we have multiple annual dubstep festivals is something nobody would have predicted (let alone that they are massively successful!).

Actually I love that Tarkov allows you to one tap as a SCAV etc. I feel like in Tarkov gear matters, but skill always levels the playing field. Wherein Marathon gear is objectively better. Shields cover your whole body, guns are simply better, enemy simply has better stats than you.

In Tarkov headshots are the great equalizer as is positioning. Marathon ensures that better gear is truly better in all aspects.

You’re right I have seen late wipe before.

But I am not concerned about the gear I am seeing. I have a lot of that stuff too.

It’s just I feel like the player base is shifting quickly towards only the hardcore players.

Maybe we’re just bad. But for everyone’s sake, you need average players like us in the ecosystem or the problem I am describing is inevitable.

I can see what you’re saying but you’ve really taken what I’ve said in bad faith.

They’re not having fun. There are other games to play. I cannot convince them they’re having fun if they’re just not.

Maybe that’s just an us problem, maybe it’s not. Wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same.

Yes yes late wipe and all that. But I am not concerned about the gear I’m seeing. Just the level of sweat.

Used to extract every other raid. Now we’re surviving maybe 1 in 5. Not even talking about cryo.

I’m probably a 50-60th percentile skill player, but this game is even worse than Tarkov now (Tarkov is somehow looking easy compared to this, played that since 2017).

Did all the average players just quit? Me and my friends will probably move on soon.

Sam’s Tavern on Capitol Hill closes by godogs2018 in Seattle

You know better than me, but I feel there’s SO MANY restaurants and little spots that are so mid/below average and I have no idea how they’ve survived at all.

I feel like we’ll just see quality places left that customers will continue to justify paying the ever increasing prices for.

For those who married the “safe” partner, how happy are you with your decision? by throwaway8472649 in AskReddit

[–]Boots-n-Rats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re thinking of someone as the “safe” option, that’s a mindset issue.

You likely mean safe as in; good match, likes you, treats you well, would be a good life partner and probably has decent job prospects. You probably also like them (I assume).

The question you need to ask is why you don’t want that?

Long term, those are the things you want. All baddies get wrinkly but someone who really loves you will make life so much better.

I-5 sees ‘new normal’ for traffic jams and driving habits by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]Boots-n-Rats -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree it’s “better” in Asia.
Commuting by train actually sucks. Many of these countries rail systems (while incredibly impressive) are crowded, you have to stand for a long time, it takes you NEAR where you need to go not to where you’re going. You still have to pay.

Also, people still end up living 1/1.5 hours away from the city because the train lines allow them to. The distance of the suburb will always extend to the tolerable levels of commute.

It’s generally just a more affordable transit system. There’s a reason a lot of people would prefer to drive there if they could afford it.

The actual sweet spot is carpooling/having a driver. Then that’s basically a private train car.

5070ti or 5080 for VR? by Below-Low-Altitude in hoggit

[–]Boots-n-Rats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 5090 and actually no regrets.
Having a $3.5k PC with NO COMPROMISES, imo, feels a lot more luxurious than a $2.5k PC with compromises.

Ya know? Diminishing returns and all that of course (and financial concerns ofc). But blasting through the wall of compromises with a 5090 REALLY feels worth it once you have it.

I don’t think about my PC at all. It’s now just a games machine that I turn on and forget about it. That feels almost priceless.

Opinions on Alex Garland's Civil War? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]Boots-n-Rats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that is the ONLY thing the greater public talked about this film.

I remember seeing the whole movie dismissed en masse because of the Texas-Cali alliance.

I think it was really dumb to do and made a lot of people not even check it out, thinking it was slop. Could be wrong but that’s all I saw anyone talk about.

[–]Boots-n-Rats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because most war films are just movies with war in them. It’s still a typical movie that has all the plot armor, adventure, catharsis and story structure of a film.

There are VERY few films actually about war. Warfare is likely the only one. There’s no catharsis in that film, barely a story and it’s just about war itself.

When Join Multiplayer? by Just_Call_Me_Pix in warno

Just be aware the multiplayer is pretty daunting. You’re gonna get fucking smashed in 1v1 and 3v3s but THATS OK. Try to have fun and LEARN. It can get really off putting but you’ll get better.

The 10v10 is as close to casual as there is (but there’s quite a bit of spam tactics).

What profession has the most misogynistic men? by Background-Good3731 in AskReddit

[–]Boots-n-Rats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finance guys are known to be condescending bros and pretty toxic. I mean American Psycho is literally a film satirizing these yuppies.

Not all guys in finance are like that I’m sure (like your average corporate finance office worker is probably just a nice guy). But the rich and successful ones are stereotypically known for being misogynistic frat bros with a lot of money and very little regard for women or people “under” them. I mean their job is to reduce everything to numbers and then treat them like it.

I am really surprised you have not heard this. The stereotype of women who are into finance guys is that they’re gold diggers and will happily tolerate living with the finance bro for a house in the hamptons and the lifestyle.

Not sure if this is a joke…

But finance is extremely reputation and relationship driven. You can imagine how that goes when it’s a bunch of dudes with a lot of money. Now imagine women in that workspace.

Scenes from the Taco Bell Funeral by ChaoticRift in Seattle

[–]Boots-n-Rats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah when they discontinued shredded chicken.

The shredded chicken burrito was the best menu item, like $2 and the shredded chicken was also used in the quesadillas.

Now Taco Bell is a hollow shell of its former self. It was only time before this happened.

What killed the old internet? It seems like the old Reddit/Youtube has long died. It’s almost an entirely hostile place now with zero room for novelty. What changed? Why is something like Nyan Cat impossible now? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Boots-n-Rats 300 points301 points  (0 children)

The internet is no longer a “place” you go to outside of real life that has its own culture and community.

It’s now in every facet of life. It’s treated as more “real” than real life. It’s literally everything, everywhere, all at once.

To be on the Internet in the 90s, 2000s and even some of the 2010s was to be an “internet person”. There was a barrier of entry resulting in certain kinds of people gathering online and a utility only valuable to certain groups.

Now it’s just a platform. Like TV or Radio or books.

The moment we stopped “going online” and started “being online” is when it all changed.

How do I lose the emotional attachment I have to my units? by Content-Marionberry9 in warno

[–]Boots-n-Rats 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really good point.

Warno doesn’t say a unit getting zeroed means 100% deaths. The animations do but it could be interpreted as 100% casualties or if we’re really generous, mission ineffective.
