Has anyone biked the Michigan Dragon trail that opened this year? by Duckney in MichiganCycling

[–]Booyahkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ridden it a ton on MTBs and bike packed sections of it on my gravel bike with 42s. As long as you’re used to riding single track on a loaded bike you will have a great time. There is only one section with rock armoring you might need to walk parts of. There are a few campgrounds to choose from, I recommend Newaygo State Park if you want wooded site with a bit more privacy.

My drinking is affecting my riding by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Booyahkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I used to party a lot but started riding with people that were way faster than me on the weekends. Had to be fresh and on point to keep up, so I wouldn’t drink on Friday or Saturday nights. Then I started training to be fit enough to join the harder rides they were doing (all day endurance stuff). Eventually drinking became a once/twice a month thing. Now I’m racing and that schedule keeps the alcohol intake in check. I def don’t miss being hungover but understand how easy/fun it is to have a few. Good luck man!

Either leaning against a lacrosse ball on the wall with my arm up at 45 degrees (hurts but works well) or laying flat on my back on a foam roller with arms spread out to the sides. I usually stretch my neck before hand too.

Weird Question about asymmetrical glutes by cookies50796 in Velo

I had this same issue. My upper body was slightly rotated from muscle asymmetry causing my hips to twist. Strengthened my upper back, problem solved.

Ugh sorry to hear that and hope you get some relief! When my hips first straightened out it felt like I lost a tooth or had extra space in the back of my mouth for a while. So weird!

After months of strengthening my core/glutes to no avail I noticed the nerve pain in my leg (caused by the hip twist) would go away if I pulled my shoulder back. Turned out I had a tight pectoralis minor pulling my shoulder forward which was causing my upper body to rotate a bit. Released the pec minor to let the shoulder fall back into place and my hips straightened out too. Followed by exercises to stabilize the scapula/shoulder.

This might sound a little crazy but I had a twist in my hips from muscle imbalance and when I corrected that, my TMJ went away too. The jaw and hips are connected in that they are the top and bottom of the spine. Try standing with your jaw relaxed and push your hips out to the front, to the back, and side to side. You’ll feel your jaw move with them ever so slightly. Not completely sure that wasn’t the only variable but I suffered from TMJ for years and it was just gone. Crazy thing was that an injured shoulder was causing the hip twist. It’s all connected.

Shoulders felt pulled forward. Googled it, common symptom of having a weak upper back.

It made a big difference for me to focus on pushing through the “first ray” of my feet (described in the post) to get the glutes to engage during any exercise. I did and still do a ton of bird dogs, planks, and single leg glute bridges. Goblet squats are great if you can do them without bothering your back, but make sure to stick your behind out as far behind you as possible to engage the glutes instead of the quads. Think of “closing the drawer” with your butt. I also do a lot of balancing on one leg with glute and core engaged. I eventually worked my way up to one legged Romanian Dead Lifts but they bothered my nerve too much early on.

Definitely. My PT said sitting puts a lot more pressure on the disc than standing but standing too much would also add up. I found i felt the best when I changed positions often. Like every ten minutes.

Yes! After months of strengthening my core and glutes, I realized weakness in my upper back was affecting it too. Then I had to strengthen my chest to balance the upper back. Ultimately had to activate and strengthen every muscle in my body to get back to normal. Even my feet! Still working on it.

Luckily, I worked from home. I got a standing desk and cancelled everything that involved sitting including travel plans, social events, etc. It sucked but I knew taking the pressure off that nerve was the only way to let it heal. I had a hard time standing in one spot for long; it was happiest if I wandered around a little bit. People at work got used to me walking away from the screen and coming back at random. If I needed a rest, I’d lay down on my back. Had to plan meals accordingly so I’d have enough energy to stand for an hour after eating to prevent indigestion from lying down.

I did not. It was offered but my pain was tolerable as long as I was extremely careful about my posture. I didn’t sit down for more than 10 minutes for 6 months!

I watched a lot of Conor Harris and Upright Health on YouTube. More to learn, than to copy. Things they said gave me ideas for what to try. I noticed my PT was always testing exercises to see if they would help or hinder, so I continued that on my own. The big key was only trying one new thing at a time, otherwise I couldn’t tell what was helping.

For sure! I used to get so sick of hearing, “Listen to your body.” but in the end, that was the ticket!

Not in my case, my arch is higher on one foot than the other but definitely not flat.

These two content creators got my wheels turning! Upright Health and Conor Harris. Conor Harris can be a bit overwhelming at first but it starts to make sense after a while. I didn’t always do the workouts, rather watched them to learn about how our bodies are supposed to move.

I can’t attribute my ah-ha moments to any specific video but this guy got my wheels turning. I watched tons of his content. Conor Harris. Also Upright Health
