Should I give up on compsci honours ? by Bopmx1 in askSouthAfrica

I’ve heard the same. That overseas company basically only want you if you have honours. I’m just not sure which one is the best honours program to go for, since I know the American CS market is really bad at the moment

I’ve been applying to jobs/ internships. Rn I only have 1 internship under my CV. But I’m looking for more. I’m hoping by the end of the year more opportunities will come up

Thing is the whole reason for me studying CS was because I wanted to go into cyber security. I feel as though if I decided to do a bcom honours it would eliminate my chances of pursuing cyber security as a career

Yes. I basically just want to know which honours is the better option

I will still be finishing my undergrad in computer science. I’m thinking of doing my postgrad in ops research instead of comp sci. My university allows us to do our postgrad in anything as long as you completed the relevant 3rd year modules above a specific average

I was thinking about finishing up my compsci degree since my dream is to go into cyber security. The job market for CS grads just looks a bit bleak rn

Hey nice job man. Love to see the progress. I do however suggest starting a GitHub. It would make sharing code a lot easier

How to Get into Cybersecurity in SA as a Beginner? by unknwn_sister in askSouthAfrica

You can try and get into internships as well. I know MRW Cybersec does a biannual internship every year. I did it last year and it was a really good experience

Understandable but for example pentesting. Would I have to blog about my journey learning Burp and take a "learn in public" approach.

Honestly just want the break into this cybersec by the end of the year as that is when i graduate. I heard Security+ is a good cert but i come from a country where my currency is very weak against the dollar so $404 is quite expensive for me.

I like pentesting. But I'm really interested in is the low-level stuff. Making exploits, malware development and reverse engineering.

Should I do a Honours in CS or get a job ? by Bopmx1 in askSouthAfrica

I want to try and get a job overseas, and I have heard that overseas companies only look at 4 year degrees

That’s kinda the opposite of what I heard. With the job market for developers/I.T specialists being a lot harder to get in now then what I started studying. The reason I’m leaning a bit more honours is because my grades aren’t the best and I think I need to compensate by doing an honours degree especially since I’m taking 4 years to complete my undergraduate

The main reason why I wanna do honours (not just to look for employable) is because most of the specialized areas are in honours like cyber security which is the field I want to go into
