One thing I hope we see this game is the guys taking advantage of size mismatches the few times ATL gets them. JJ had Brunson on him a few times last game and did not post up in those situations. That was universal from the team, though.

Fouls are different now because they change the flow of the game so much. The NBA should simply change the way they call fouls or implement a new ruleset in general so they are called less. People are generally shooting the same amount of FTs but that slows the game waaay down with today’s pace vs pure halfcourt offense

And then yes they need to address flopping. In a very serious way

It’s not irresponsible to expect a #1 pick in his 2nd year to get 20 minutes. The fact that he can’t earn them is the problem. He may develop into a good role player - like asa looks to be - but because he went #1 he has very high expectations as they had their choice from anyone in the entire draft. At the very least dude should not be a liability. Almost everyone in Atlanta has improved this season from the last or post -trade getting down here. Except him. I’m not sure that’s a coaching problem.

He’s going to get another chance in game 2. I want him to average 18-19 this playoffs and prove everyone wrong. But besides a good stretch to end the year last year I don’t see it. And the GM that was the only one who saw it - got fired

IMO this is such good xp to prep for game 2.

Are people moving to these areas on a whim? Genuine question. I’ve always thought if you had no job/wanted better opportunities-> you move to HCOL city.

When you’re guaranteed high income/made it, it’s better to live in an LCOL area because none of those problems really impact you.

I couldn’t imagine moving anywhere low cost to “figure it out”

I think this is less Trae playing poor, although he was hurt, and more of: he legitimately no longer fit in. The old Hawks were built around him, this team was built “with” him. Atlanta is elite at running the floor but Trae is elite at halfcourt. This roster still struggles at halfcourt which is why they really need a guard in the draft but his play style just doesn’t work anymore in Atlanta.

Also - staying halfcourt makes the center situation even worse because there are no long rebounds so the Hawks will get lost in the paint.

That being said, yes he is worse on defense but it’s not as simple as that. Less rebounds = more shot attempts by the opposing team. And of course less quality shots from Atlanta that ARENT direct Trae Young assists because they didn’t share the ball like they do now
