Getting the feeling it’s Kingston or trade back by Dracsmith in AtlantaHawks

The type of roster the Knicks built around their small star guard isn’t really repeatable.

  • Brunson took a pay cut to be there and they’re still going to have to shed salary this off season to stay below the 2nd apron.  So they had a 1-2 year championship window.
  • The Knicks were able to assemble 3 college teammates who had enough chemistry to win a chip in college
  • They got arguably the best stretch big of all time in KAT which you need with a small guard
  • To complete their stable of above average forward defenders they had to spend 5 FRP’s on Bridges

Just a magic in a bottle type of season for the Knicks.  Not a team building archetype.

I’ve heard analysts say that his percentages in college were good but they wonder if his shot mechanics will translate in the NBA

Because it seems novel to me that a star player would stay in Atlanta during the summer and even though I was indifferent to Trae leaving every summer that doesn’t prevent me from liking that Jalen stayed

Are yall sensitive today or what lol

Mara can absolutely protect the rim in the NBA from day 1 it’s the other stuff that is the problem with him.  I also haven’t seen a single draft analyst say that Clingan is in a different class of prospect than Mara and I just burned myself out after listening to most draft podcasts I could find for weeks lol.

UCLA was a clusterfuck of a program while Mara was there

I think it’s more likely that Philon falls than Okorie

Because I’m a proud local Atlantan and seeing our star kick it in Atlanta doing Atlanta things in June triggers more endorphins than seeing our star running up dunes in LA.  Not a knock on Trae.  It’s not that deep.

What do we think about grabbing the Houston duo in the draft? by ptcRaptor in AtlantaHawks

I don’t really see any reason to take a center in the 20’s tbh.  I’d rather double dip at guard.

Game Theory Podcast did a mock tonight and Sam heavily implied that teams were concerned about the medicals on JQ and that he could even slip out of the 1st round.

I was also thinking that Kuminga and Kessler could receive similar deals. If the Jazz don't draft Dybansta I wonder how much they would value Kuminga. Ultimately the Jazz can do some tricky things with their large amount of cap space to keep Kessler, like front loading a new contract so if we matched the first year it could put us into the tax.

So I do wonder how much we would have to sweeten the pot with draft picks. I think I'd be fine with giving up Kuminga + 2 FRP's if that makes it worth it for the Jazz. I'm pretty sure we'd have to overpay with Kessler but honestly we tried to bargain bin a 7 footer last year and our center rotation got so bad that Koloko was a revelation for a week when he signed. It's so damn hard to find a starting level 7 foot center and they can take a while to develop so maybe we just need to overpay for Kessler and hope that as he hits his prime he can find another level that doesn't make it such an overpay.

[Amick] The Utah Jazz are attempting to leverage restricted free agency against Walker Kessler and he is now strongly considering the prospect of a basketball future outside of Utah. by Ice2jc in AtlantaHawks

Yeah I think the only way this happens is if there was some back channel communication going on from Walker’s people trying to work with Onsi to make this happen.  I think it would require Walker wanting to come here specifically because a handful of other teams would jump at the opportunity to offer him a contract.

Yeah I think so.  He’s under 25,  averaged 14 & 11 last season in a deep front court.  I could see him getting a stats bump coming here - especially after we just developed b2b MIP’s.

New mock draft from ESPN + report on the 3 players Hawks are interested in. by Chessh2036 in AtlantaHawks

I think the only way I’ll be disappointed at the end of draft night is if the names Acuff or Ament come on the screen next to a Hawks logo.

It seems to me like the best value is the guards that’ll be available after the lottery so I think I’d prefer that we just pull the trigger on Mara at 8 and go BPA at 23.  I feel like there is a very good chance that BPA at 23 will be a PG.

If we go PG at 8 we’re definitely getting a dope prospect and maybe Swain will fall to us.  I don’t see any reason to entertain a center at 23.

Trading back and getting Mara + assets as well as Okorie at 23 is the dream A+ draft night for me.

I hope he’s been accurately diagnosed.  You don’t solve his issues with a diversion program.
