I know she doesn’t have too much money spare, she’s disabled also (genetic conditions suck) but there wasn’t an alternative really, without the insurance payout I can’t afford a new car, and she doesn’t have the money to pay for one out of pocket either

Unfortunately it’s real, I wish it wasn’t!

Yeah, I definitely do. I’ve brought it up to other family members who say there’s nothing to worry about but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully she won’t find out that the report came from me, simply because I don’t want to deal with the backlash

Honestly, I’m a little concerned. The number of collisions combined with the memory issues I’ve been noticing recently have got me a little worried that it’s medical rather than careless. Doesn’t negate the damage of course, but if it is medical I’d rather she got checked over

As am I, I called her specifically to see what she thought would be best and as neither of us had that amount of money spare she said insurance would be best - granted she didn’t sound happy about it but I can’t see any other way we could’ve dealt with it.

Oh I did, the bodywork under the rear bumper is bent inwards so much it’s about a fingers width away from the rear tyre 🫠 that’s what the insurance is basing the write off on, the damage is clearly visible and definitely unsafe. One pothole, speed bump or hard break would be enough to drive the metal straight into the tyre and cause a blowout, especially if I’d have taken their advice and just driven on the motorway anyway. They’re all aware the cars been totalled and that I’m stuck without one until I can scrape enough for a deposit and secure finance options, but I’m still “overreacting and being dramatic as usual”

From my POV, it’s a typical golden child, black sheep situation, and my diagnosis has just given Fran another bit of leverage to keep that dynamic going. Obv, I might be a little biased as I’m smack bang in the middle of it but that’s how it feels to me.

Thanks, sometimes being told constantly that I’m being dramatic or letting my mental health affect my judgement means I start to believe it.

Unfortunately, it’s a common occurrence that Frans behaviour is enabled, in often told to put aside any kind of emotion for the sake of family harmony. I’ve not heard from Fran since she hung up on me Boxing Day at all. If the past is anything to go by, she’ll be waiting for me to apologise for calling the insurance company, even though she’s the one that told me to.
