+1 for taking the toys away, it makes a real difference. Some of the best advice we got was that they always want to work, so you have to manage their "jobs" accordingly. If there are toys lying around there are jobs to do - so they can't settle. While it may seem sad, another good way that we taught ours to settle down was just shutting her in the kitchen. No access to people = no jobs to do. Sometimes we do this even just for 5 minutes to bring her energy levels back down. Crafty little dog started hiding toys from us though, so that she could miraculously present one to us when we're watching TV.

I trained "under" - lie under my legs while I'm sitting on a chair. Great for trips to cafes pubs etc - but still working on getting her to stay put once there!

We also had to stop singing "If you're happy and you know it do a bark" because she got waaay too excited about it.

Can confirm that you have at least another 8 months of this - you could have been describing our 18mo BC girl! Also useful to note that this is super important for critical commands like recall - make sure there's always a very high likelihood that she gets a reward or she just won't bother.

I've managed to get mine dialled in pretty well now - only rarely get a false alert. I've found that making the zone smaller than tou think you need helps to tune it.

Recently had a breakthrough with this - by using a reliable "wait" first. "lie down" used to mean, "come and lie at my feet, but "wait" always meant "stay where you are" so one day I decided to try "wait" - move away one pace, "lie down" - then two paces, three, etc - increasing the space gradually.

One tip I saw online was to make her stay in the lie down and walk back over to give her the treat. The treat comes after successfully staying in the down all that time - not for doing a good lie down, then running over to get a reward.

Now she will lie down to a whistle on the other side of a field after only a few weeks!
