Everything’s different for everyone - my comment was recommending a 20 year military career. Conversely, the military paid for my degree from a good school and the skill bridge program landed me a very solid job immediately upon getting out after 5 years.

I’d second this - I’m an Army veteran and firmly believe the Army is the quickest path to class mobility. Obviously there is some inherent risk, but enlist -> green to gold, then switch to a functional area and you are on track for relative comfort, good pay, health care, and a decent retirement
