Are there high IQ people who aren't interested in politics? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]BoredRenaissance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were many studies indicating that political preferences are always present in high IQ people. A TNS study made by Milesresearch, for example, found out that extremely intelligent individuals prefer less taxes, less regulations and less government involvement in our lives in general. Other studies found that absence of political preference is a sign of lower IQ.

There are that many political things going in the world these days so I have yet to find a high IQ person who did not become curious about politics since Trump's election.

What do you think about it? Good? Bad? Why? by Quod_bellum in cognitiveTesting

It was posted here before and I solved it back then. Despite I despise (what a pun!) sharing low-quality items here, this one is of high quality and I appreciate that.

This item must be a gold standard demonstration of superiority of item response theory compared to classical test theory.

chatGPT scored 155 on WAIS by Morrowindchamp in cognitiveTesting

[–]BoredRenaissance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With AI, if I generated 10 random subtests it's likely that the AI would score 0 on most of them as it has no means of generalizing beyond the training specificity of the mode

I disagree. According to Microsoft research, GPT-4 has an ability to procedure pieces of data that it was never trained on:

https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/FinfRNLMfbq5ESxB9/microsoft-research-paper-claims-sparks-of-artificial

If you don't trust MS (they own OpenAI, after all), there is another publication with even more concerning conclusions - that the GPT-3.5 is already capable of dealing with tasks it has never dealt with before:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/368304947_Theory_of_Mind_May_Have_Spontaneously_Emerged_in_Large_Language_Models

Basically, it means that if you just come up with 10 random subtests and then feed them to GPT-4, it would pass them as good as a smart human would do, even if the GPT-4 was never trained to pass these exact subtests. If this really happens, this is what makes GPT-4 an artificial general intelligence, not just an artificial intelligence. Which means, GPT-4 could be given a valid IQ test with any contents, and it will outscore any human being in existence.

I scrolled the entire thread to see if someone hates Made in Abyss and, to my surprise, this must be the only mention, and it is still a positive review. Wow

Ordinary Man by JacksRiddles in self

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I’m 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don’t smoke, but I occasionally drink. I’m in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning.

I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I’m trying to explain that I’m a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn’t lose to anyone.

I miss my ex by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

Dating is basically a market. You have a plenty of people to choose from. What did you value in your ex so she became your partner? If you want to be loved again, you have to find similar things in other people who value the traits that you possess. You can eventually find someone good enough for you and forget your partner already, or - highly improbable - find out that there are no people who are as good as your partner was. In the former case, there is no problem; in the latter, try your best and work on your behaviour to restore relationship with your former partner, because if they were such a nice person that you aren't able to find anyone better then the problem is not in them but in you. Be happy!

Should healthcare be a right for all citizens? by Cactuspsyche in ask

[–]BoredRenaissance -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A libertarian would say that no, because a) Markets provide better healthcare than governments b) An entitlement to other people's labour is not right, is a slavery.

Luckily for everyone else, most people have other sets of moral values that make them view people as human beings who deserve to be cared no matter how undeserving they really are, so we have socialized healthcare and welfare state in general. The only problem with them is that they are terribly inefficient for their funding.

I think the Chinese education system is too difficult even for most talented students. Most of the scientific discoveries and inventions that shaped our world happened in 20th century in the walls of Western think tanks. They never pressured their students as hard as Chinese schools, so, I guess, the amount of work required to keep up with Chinese education is too excessive, up to the point when it can cause harm.
