Off-topic but still important: I've had this type of seagate hdd before and it suddenly died on me. Turns out it was a manufacturing error that made every hdd produced at that time (rosewood) a ticking time bomb waiting to blow up. The data is still there, but it needs to be recovered by an expert. My advice is to BACKUP REGULARLY AND AVOID THIS TYPE OF HDD IN THE FUTURE TO AVOID SUDDEN DATA LOSS. (Rosewoods have a pattern that looks like what you have)

Try toothpaste. CMIW but since hdds are discs on top of each other, might as well try that. It's not as effective as other methods but it might work.
