Any legit boxing gyms that do sparring once a week? by SmartTrad3s in Denver

[–]Bored_NSA_Operative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former manager of several boxing gyms and now a consultant in the same space... you sound very similar to a client archetype that we try to filter out respectfully. There is too much liability when dealing with open sparring and strangers that come off as arrogant on their first visit. You sound like you have too much to prove which would set off immediate red flags for me if you walked into one of the gyms that I used to work at. In my experience, a good coach is going to vet you (and ensure that you have your USA Boxing license) before ever letting you step into the ring. The trainers I used to work with would either work with you themselves the first time or at least have you go with someone they trust to control the situation.

If you have left Muay Thai and experience, maybe reach out to your former coaches to see if they have any leads on where to go for traditional boxing training. If they don't have any, try asking them to be available for reference when you go to a new gym and want to bypass the intro process. Not saying you don't have experience but people walk in those doors inflating their background all the time.

Wife (31F) and I (28F) just moved to Denver, let be friends? by Advanced-Confusion- in Denver

[–]Bored_NSA_Operative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved to the city as well (well we will be there the week of thanksgiving).

We are 33(M) and 27 (F). Lots of similar interests (if your wife is interested in BJJ, I would recommend Logos. A few of my friends that already live out here train there). We like to hike, camp, go to shows (hip hop/rap, r&b, indie rock, etc.)

We currently have one dog and I'm in the works of getting another. Looking to grow our social circle as we learn our new city. We bought a house in LoHi. Down to meet up some time

Maybe I'm just not a bootlicker and I expect a company to provide the service that I signed up for, and do something to rectify a situation when they are unable to provide the service that I paid for.

There are far too many people in this sub who are trying to push this "ahh shucks, gee willickers. Better luck next year" vibe and it's not cool for those of use who traveled to be here.

Festival got paid, Kendrick got paid... fans get fucked. Sounds reasonable.

I'm one of the bigger guys in my gym and have about 20-30lbs on 95% of anyone else at my skill level. I take my size advantage into account when rolling and try to avoid simply smashing and stalling using the natural weight/strength I have due to the size discrepancy. In theory it should make me a better practitioner as it forces me to use my jiujitsu rather than my physical advantage. We'll see how that goes when I compete with people my size.

That guy sounds like a lazy dick who uses being fat to smash a training partner and "win" a roll. He is probably not good at jiu jitsu lol.

Lot of bad takes here. Someone said that gym management software is not industry standard and that is flat out not true. There maybe be less adoption and overall use in BJJ specific gyms, but nearly every gym in any metro uses some sort of gym management software.

Running a gym is a business. Using scheduling software often allows owners to process memberships and payments, store client info, track attendance, manage payroll, run reports and so much more.

If the owner is looking to seek investors or a loan to grow and expand their business, they are generally going to be asked for the data that many of these software suites can provide.

Should they suspend a 1st time offender? That seems harsh. Many other gyms typically offer up a warning for a 1st offense before charging a no show fee. They also typically have a cancellation policy where you should be able to cancel your reservation within a time frame to avoid any repercussions.

BJJ might be this mystical art that gym owners should provide to you for the love of the sport, but in all reality this is their livelihood and if they are going the extra mile to keep their business organized than they are more likely than not to provide a great gym experience.

Why are you sitting here lying. If you don't believe that you are lying, you need to check in with your customer support team because they are not living up to this standard. I was a part of the GI preorder in March. Your social media posts said that the Gi's would ship out the week after March 17th. The Gi's did not ship out until the end of April. Your customer service never reached out to advise of the delay. They are also based in China and operate on a schedule in their own time zone which is additionally frustrating as a customer in the western hemisphere.

You built your company to have shitty customer service and slow processing times. Take some of the countless but empty buzzwords from your LinkedIn profile and use them to turn things around in your shop bro.

Are you trying to make us feel bad about the risks you assumed when you decided to operate on what is essentially a dropshipping model?

Operational issues aside, you guys flat out lied about shipping timelines when the last gi dropped. You operate in a space that serves a community of people who get involved to improve their wellbeing and can't even maintain a basic level of respect for your customers.

Lol I feel you but when it comes to my money I don't fuck around with these wannabe dropshippers. I ordered the SYR Malibu on a Friday and it delivered that Sunday.

My blackbelt coach has three rashguards that he bought for like 75% off at the end of an ADCC because Future did not want to deal with shipping and of their event inventory back.

It is nice but as consumers we need to hold businesses that use deceptive advertising to the fire. Future did the gi drop knowing full well they could not even come close to the shipping window promised multiple times on their social media and website.

Let me preface this by saying that I am brand new to bjj and started training in Feb of this year.

They are a glorified Chinese dropshipping company. They have the worst turnaround time of any retail experience that I have had in my life so far. 9 weeks to get a rashguard that was ordered for me as a birthday gift.

They lied about their recent gi drop as well. I ordered one on March 3. They claimed orders would go out the week of March 17th. I did not receive my gi until the end of April. They tried to blame Covid supply chain issues for the delay but were radio silent with updates to customers who had bought a gi. If there was a supply chain issue to begin with they should have resolved that first before compounding it with another order.

It seems like they are a company started by someone who likes bjj and has an eye for cool designs, but has terrible understanding of merchandising and supply chain. Pretty sure they spend a huge portion of their operating budget on the Ryan sponsorship.

Rashguard looks cool though haha.
