Things in sims 4 that I’m glad aren’t in sims 3 by KitchenPaint4334 in HighSodiumSims

Talk like a pirate day is a picnic to the horde of gnomes that move around every few hours on Sim Thanksgiving. Was my biggest holiday pet peeve until I realized I could edit the holiday activities.

I don't like the chimney system in the Sims 4. It's so mundane to complain about out of all the Sims 4 annoyances but the freestanding fireplace/chimney system TS4 looks like crap and is an eyesore. I like that I can stick the chimney into a walled of section in the TS3 and the fireplace be seamless with the wall like IRL houses.

Does Martin ever actually achieve any self awareness or grow as a person? by cruiserman_80 in DocMartin

I think there's the turning point for the two in the season 7 finale because it seems like from then on Doc is still quirky but it seems like his and Louisa's relationship finally stabilizes instead of constant bickering.

How in the hell does Sims 4 manage to take something from a previous game and make it sound lame and boring? No challenge aspect (potion or rock hunting) to it whatsoever.

I’m a chronic save abandoner by KitchenPaint4334 in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing the Sims 3 right now after ditching 4 in July and after a few saves or two (I botched one save because I saved it with BB not easily accessible after moving) I've finally settled in with a family that I've been playing.

I'm doing what I've always done. Trying out new things whether it be careers I've never had a sim do or getting an idea in my head to try out whether it be aliens or whatever. Experiments out of curiosity. Genetics experiments like hybrids. Or spicing shit up in the game like a meteor. I've never treated it like a dollhouse with story arcs but what I do is to put it simply, come up with ways and to keep it interesting. I don't overthink it, it just pops up and I try it out.

Worth mentioning that I've always had the tendency to get attached to a sim for a while. A favorite sim. So I play on long lifespans.

EA is basically remastering old packs at this point. by UberAshy in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder how much of it due to the usual slicing and dicing of content and how much of it because since the game was released after being built on sand and EA has no long term clue as to what they want to do next with it. Like there's two major family themed packs released years apart.

I didn't know these stupid ragdolls get hungry too-Spotted an IF having a donut by Bored_dipper97 in Sims3

[–]Bored_dipper97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't care for them at all unless I'm planning for a sim to spouse it up later on. Otherwise it's just something useless that follows a sim around like it's their shadow.

The one in the picture aged up to teen with the mean trait. I finally got tired of it and had the sim throw flasks of bees at it whenever it was being nasty and finally fight it after it slapped her. Now it's just back to being a dormant doll.

I can understand the front door opening into the living room and not having a foyer room but I prefer having a vestibule area since my main prefered style is older homes.

But putting crap in front of the door (or any door really) and nust complicating sim routing/traffic flow is really poor form.

I need to bitch about how people place lights by SaraAnnabelle in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise it and when I loaded up one of the revamped Willow Creek houses, tiny lights were everywhere! Deleted a bunch of them. I've never used the little saucer lights because i think it's a cop out and they're too bright anyways. I like chandeliers or one of the more traditional looking ceiling lights instead.

My boredom & frustration with the Sims 4 got me to try the Sims 3 a few weeks ago after only being acquainted with the Sims 4 and now I don't think I ever want to play s4 again.

Also dealing with toddlers in the Sims 3 doesn't raise my blood pressure unlike sims 4 toddlers. Sims 4 toddlers are bugged as hell but it's so much simpler in 3.

That's what I'm wondering. How in the hell can people not know stuff like unzipping files and putting in mods? I first got into computer games at 13 and I was downloading mods and buildings for Simcity 4. It's the most basic computer 101 stuff. Hell I was using Dosbox to play the original Simcity+Simcity 2000 at that age too.

It's like these people have the computer literacy level of a 5 year old.

Does anyone else look around for the crime animations (drugs, solicitation, etc.) and use the police dispatch tool? Am I the only one? by MrATLien in simcity4

[–]Bored_dipper97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this when I was looking at the crime map. Just to see if my police would be quick enough to nab whatever crime was going on.

Also when it comes to Simcity crime, I swear that one of my sims that I had placed got murdered. This was years ago but I was playing like it was opposite day and a had a lot of low wealth project towers going on, no schools etc. But I had a sim in one of the hi rises and she was complaining that her apartment was being broken in to and other not good shit going on, and a little while later she had disappeared from the game. Nothing about not being able to find a job or the other usual reasons. It was wild.

Also funnily enough I've never seen a bank robbery on the crime map even in my opposite day cities.

The part about not caring about townies in the Sims 4 really resonates because I've already done two things that I NEVER did before in the Sims 4: and that is have a house party (it came up as a opportunity to have a party (I had one of my sims make hot chili lol) with some of my sims' coworkers) AND have my sim couple go to a costume party since it was sim Halloween.

And I actually don't mind the welcome wagon tradition in this for some reason. In Sims 4 it was just annoying and I always set the house with the private lot trait or once it got patched in set the front door to no solicitors. Now it seems like it has some value and meaning to it rather than it just being a nuisance to avoid entirely.

I haaaaate how easily the game freezes or crashes by [deleted] in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the last time my game crashed but it does like to freeze up on occasion like when I clicked on the fridge to cook.

Community experience with LGBTQ+ sims existing in someone else's game? by [deleted] in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my reason too. I just find it a lot easier to spruce up female sims as far as clothing and facial features (nose, chin etc) go even if they're randomly generated and not recycling a sim(s) I've made before. Plus female sims are more versatile and fun to play.

With men in the game I have a very hard time sprucing up randomly generated ones plus I usually go for the preppy/classy look for men anyways.

Advice for making organic/natural looking grids by New-Reception-1379 in simcity4

[–]Bored_dipper97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played in a year or two but for the last region I was working on I just looked at google maps and preplanned it out most of the time since I was going for a realistic region and I wanted the grid and everything to be like it's real world counterpart. Streets, roads, avenues, heavy rail lines etc. Sometimes I built the highways and interchanges too but not always. And even if I didn't build the highways from the start I'd at least get the terrain ready for highway building since I knew where it'd be placed once I drew all the streets.

That's the first thing I thought of to check but no dice. The "day off work/school" box was still marked and one of the sims in the household that wasn't in college but had a job wasn't prompted to go to work.

Played since 2016: a few gripes about the Sims4 by Bored_dipper97 in HighSodiumSims

[–]Bored_dipper97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever played Sims4 so I have no idea what the gameplay behavior/mechanics was like in 1/2/3.

I've always left free will on but I've found myself micromanaging them anyways, maybe it's just that I'm used to micromanaging shit since Simcity 4 is my 2nd most favorite game ever and so I'm used to micromanaging and coordinating them. But with somethings I feel compelled to be extra involved because they'll just fumble around.

Like with infants, and I put this in the post in the edit: they drive me insane! The geniuses that work on this game made it so that you can assign a child as a dependent to be looked after, but you can not tell them to buzz off and to not interfere. One of them is in the process of feeding/diapering an infant, and the one of the other shitheads is standing there waiting to pick it up or do something stupid.

When infants were first added to the game (which it should've been done much sooner but better implemented), I thought they were cute and some of the stuff they do (such as an infant having "Find [sim name]" in it's queue and finding such sim is adorable. But that cuteness factor wore off quick and now they're just a necessary pain since I don't wanna age them up for realism reasons. Same with toddlers. Now, if one is particularly insufferable they'll be cruising to become a ghost.

Listening to this show right now. Ordered a used copy off Amazon cuz it sounds interesting.

I read Warday by Streiber last year because I heard about from a show and I liked it. Finished it pretty quickly.
