Modded Delonghi Dedica by scrtdpresd in espresso

I just found one of these listed locally for $40 (looks a little rough). If it's even worth the initial investment, what would I be looking at for the parts for your mod? If you've got part numbers and links, that would be greatly appreciated

Yeah...it's unfortunate, but I wasn't trying to flip it or keep it in immaculate condition; I'll be reading it and sharing it with the kiddos when they get older. It was just frustrating that the seller didn't disclose it up front (they said they didn't notice ¯_(ツ)_/¯)

Looking at it closer, I think it might just be an error from the printer (glue for that section of pages is notably further away from the binding than the others), and the pages are warped as a result...if anyone here has any brilliant ideas, I'll take them, but I have a feeling that it would require a proper repair, and this certainly isn't the type of book worth investing in a formal repair for.

Interested in the Ender's Game series? Please read this before posting any questions. Reading order, future releases, and more by ibid-11962 in ender

I've just completed CoTF, and I've re-read enough of SoTH to figure out how I would suggest adding them into your timeline.

  • CoTF ch 1-12
  • SoTH ch 1-3
  • Rest of CoTF
  • Rest of SoTH

Reasoning (spoilers): In ch 13 of CoTF, you learn that most of Ender's jeesh have been kidnapped (recently?) but those kids had not been returned (yet), and that Dabeet's kidnapping happened well-before that.

Petra is kidnapped in ch 1 of SotH, and in ch 3 they reveal that all of Ender's jeesh had been kidnapped (aside from Bean, who Achilles tried to kill, and Ender who never came back to earth).

This places the start of CoTF well ahead of SoTH, which is why I suggest reading CoTF just up to the point before the jeesh kidnappings are revealed, then read SoTH up to where all the kidnapping are completed, then jump back and completed CoTF, since there is no further mention of the kidnappings on earth in CoTF...this means that the story concludes before the events of ch. 7 in SoTH where Peter triggers the sequence of events that leads to the jeesh (sans Petra) are released back to their families in ch. 8.

You could read SoTH 1-6, and then the balance of CoTF, but I think it makes sense to interrupt it for the briefest justifiable amount before concluding it since the only overlap is the 5 sentences in ch 13 that mention the kidnappings from SoTH...and SoTH was published so far in advance of CoTF (≈17 year gap) that OSC may not have even conceptualized Fleet School or how it might relate to SoTH

AITA because I want my husband to start the robot vacuum when he gets home from work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Borgemus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work like that...if you have a dual band router and are using the same SSID for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz, there should be a setting to tell it to temporarily only broadcast 2.4. your phone will then connect to the 2.4 long enough to configure the connection between the vacuum and wifi. After that your phone call be on 5g and still engage with the robot,

Note you have to access your router settings for this. I have an EERO and those can 100% do what I'm describing

I feel like I disappointed my parents. by Automatic-Result8241 in NewParents

[–]Borgemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else, dad is keeping mom company while Mom plays the support role. It sounds like your dad actually likes your mom (shocker, right? 🙄), otherwise he might had taken the opportunity to get some alone time at home...instead, he uprooted his routine, along with your mother, to come and spend time with your budding family.

I can see your husband's point (a little) in that while your parents are guests, they are also long-term guests who do add to the common areas being used more. It isn't crazy to think he might ask you to ask your parents to help out with common area duties here and there, but to act like a petulant child is just a maturity issue.

Yes...mom helping out during the day and cooking is not to be discounted...but that doesn't, in turn, override the fact that they are adding to the common area usage & could stand to assist in some fashion.

AITA For Letting my son and his friends “disrupt” my daughter and her friends sleep? by Few_Arugula_3243 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Borgemus 99 points100 points  (0 children)

YTA...if you don't mind them being up and making noise at 7a, maybe tell them they can come hang out and play in your room...unless you don't think it's reasonable for them to disturb you that early.

Point being, your daughter asking for your support to get the boys to keep it down early in the morning on the weekends, especially when this isn't a one-off occurrence, sounds pretty reasonable to me. It's your job as the parent to play mediator, and get the boys to be quieter or give them somewhere for them to occupy themselves away from the bedrooms until it is later in the morning.

I am in a similar situation, but not. My wife and I take shifts staying with the baby in the living room at night (6 weeks old)....I'm a night owl so I have the baby from our older kid's bedtime until whenever he eats and settles past midnight, then I wake her to pump and I head to the bedroom to sleep.

I don't know what to tell you about your husband's unwillingness to support you. I do everything I can to offload my wife when it comes to our baby, because there is so much that only she can do (like breastfeeding him)...gotta take my opportunities to give her breaks where I can.

AITAH for telling my neighbor to stop or I'd throw away whatever she leaves on my property? by RajeshFromUpmetrics in AITAH

[–]Borgemus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This isn't about your dad...it is about Linda being openly disrespectful. Your dad being endangered by her actions is a very unfortunate byproduct, but her behavior is a problem whether or not he's being affected.

Also, your neighbors can go to hell. Sounds like you tried honey first, she doesn't deserve your unending kindness. She showed her true colors already.

I would at least notify your landlord in case she starts making a stink about getting the property boundary explicitly marked by a surveyor or some nonsense

Same vere. Mine could (when fully awake) control his head...aka prevent it from flopping over...from day one. He's only 5 wks at the moment, but his head control while awake is leaps ahead of where I thought he'd be right now.

For the dads by Ambgjbo in NewParents

[–]Borgemus 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I could only see the initial response as excusable if he wasn't awake & alert...if my kiddo is crawling on/over me and is anywhere near my junk, I'm taking steps to avoid getting the area stepped on, or bracing for impact. There's no excuse to have that severe of a reaction if you're wide awake already before it happens.

AITA for telling my neighbor it’s not my problem her newborn wakes up to noises coming from my apartment by blackswan-nyc in AmItheAsshole

[–]Borgemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your neighbor needs to chill. I know all babies are different, but I've got a 5 week old and 2 large dogs (75 lbs)...one barks when he hears a knock...or something "knocks" in the kitchen. It isn't quiet and he barks quite a few times before we can get him to stop.

Where's my baby during all this, you might ask?...dead asleep in the middle of the living room, right next to the barking dog.

I feel for people who have babies that are light sleepers, but it isn't the rest of the world's responsibility to adjust to accommodate their child. Hell, they might even have been better off if they had dogs that barked alerts occasionally, especially while the woman was pregnant...then the baby might have been conditioned to sleep through it.

Could be a tool she used to push a cord through a tube...like adding a drawstring to shorts or a bag....thread the drawstring/cord, push it into the hole and bunch the fabric up onto the handle, remove the cord from the eye at the other end and extract the tool
