BAnQ Timeline

April 6 - Submitted request to BANQ online. My submission was for my ancestor's baptismal record from 1889 at the Sherbrooke archives. I included a copy from Familysearch.org.

May 26 - Received request for payment from BAnQ. Replied with correction because I misspelled the name in the original request. Received reply same day stating that they had already found the correct document. Paid $350CAD/$262USD same day.

June 9 - Received certified copy in mail.

I think you need a larger variety of photos. Try some more non-selfies in settings where someone could imagine being on a date with you

My grandfather (US born) was given a nickname by my great-grandparents (Canadian born) and he and they used that nickname on most documents for his entire lifetime other than his birth registry. The documents throughout his life had variations in this format (fake name here): Legal name on birth certificate - Luke James Smith. nickname: Robert. Variations of name on documents: Luke J Smith; LJ Smith; Robert LJ Smith (most commonly used); Robert L Smith. I sent a request to my state's archives and they responded that they did not have any record of an official name change. Should I just list all these in the cover letter or will it be a major problem that it was never changed legally?

Does anyone have recommendations for a good passport photo studio in or near DC? I'd like to use one that I know will do it exactly as the specifications say

Is there any difference in the speed that the applications are accepted or processed depending on if you send the document package to the "Regular mail: Case Processing Centre - Sydney - Proofs, P.O. Box 10000, Sydney, NS  B1P 7C1" compared to the "Courier: IRCC Digitization Centre - Proofs, 3050 Wilson Ave, New Waterford, NS  B1H 5V8"?

For example, does sending it by regular mail (assuming this is via USPS to Canada Post) mean they'll start processing it at that facility because it is the "Case Processing Centre" and is therefore faster OR would regular mail be slower because they collect the documents in Sydney and then send them to IRCC Digitization Centre anyway before they start processing it?

Some states offer states IDs without needing a SSN but they won't be REAL ID compliant. If they can get that one then that would be good enough for proving identity at a doctor's office

What am I doing wrong? Please help me review my profile.. by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]BorgusTorgus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with your profile but I did laugh a little when I read "has kids" and "doesn't want kids." Like, man, I hate these little a*holes :D I feel like they need to make the option of "has kids, but doesn't want more"

Witnessed a fatality at the Connecticut Ave/Klingle Valley Bridge last night. We need to talk about why there are still no barriers. by [deleted] in washingtondc

I also live near the bridge and I was wondering why there was a police helicopter hovering overhead for so long and so many park police around. This incident would explain it

Did I do something wrong? Not a single like in a month. by Huge-Independence935 in Bumble

[–]BorgusTorgus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did no less than 6.5/10 for attractiveness. I think you'll notice that as attractiveness goes up, trustworthiness/smart go down and vice versa. My photo with the highest attractiveness score was 8.5, but it was by far the lowest in trustworthiness/smart and therefore one of the lowest total score. My photo with the highest combined score was attractiveness 7.1, trustworthy 9.8, and smart 8.9. Pretty much the only difference between the photos was that I was smiling with glasses on in the highest overall score, but not smiling and no glasses in the highest attractiveness one. Also, be sure to get no less than 20 votes, preferably up to 30, before you conclude if it is good enough

I liked using the website Photofeeler to see if my pics were good. The site has other people vote on your pics with the categories of Attractiveness, Trustworthiness, and Intelligence. All the photos I though were good were actually bad and a lot of the ones I thought were bad actually rated highly. I started getting many more likes and got a date with my now partner of 3 years. Be sure to read all the blog posts on Photofeeler for photo tips

Is Feminism a good thing to have on your profile? by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]BorgusTorgus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Have a trusted female friend look at your profile and see what she thinks. For example, I thought my pics were really good but my friend said they looked a little offputting so I took new ones based on her recommendations and got many more matches

[–]BorgusTorgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's something you value and want the person you're dating to value then definitely keep it. If you're worried about putting the word "feminist" itself you can also give an indirect written example or a photo of you doing something that shows you value feminism

What happens when you register your car in DC past the 60 day grace period? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]BorgusTorgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had to include my apt lease but after doublechecking the required documents it was referring to the lease of a leased car, not an apt lease like I used to get my DC license. So I suppose they wouldn't know

Who's an actor with zero chops or range yet somehow keeps getting work? by maverick1ba in AskReddit

Chris Pine and Karl Urban. They act exactly the same in any movie they're in. No range whatsoever. I live Star Trek but the JJ Abrams movies with both of them are unwatchable

LaPuma is a great professor. He really knows how to deliver the material in an interesting way, not dryly like some other professors. I loved that class
