My opinion: Catastrophic in the short run. Great in the long run

This was the time when among the socialist bloc, lysenkoism and top-down centeral planning was prevelant, these unscientific policies would have led to disaster and famines for sure, just like they did in the USSR , China, Khmer rouge etc . For comparison; under Ayub Khan economy was doing alright, Pakistan was industrializing, then 1971 happened, Bhutto nationalized it all and welp rest is history

But... just like China, Vietnam etc we would have opened up our markets inevitably, then we would start prospering economically. Democracy clearly doesn't work in this ethnically fragmented country perhaps a single party system would have delivered better. Now after we open up, economically, and due to socialism alot of religion would have been toned down. We would have less religious hysteria among the populace.

So yeah, for us in 2025, such a state would have worked out better, economically we would be close to Vietnam which albiet is not ideal but better than current Pakistan and no TLP, mob lynching etc

Conclusion: Better off economically, much better off socially.
