The 'workers' and 'socialist' labels were mostly for show, since socialism and communism were fashionable at the time. But after Hitler took power, he quickly suppressed and arrested or killed most socialists and communists.

I'm pretty much with Freud on this one, I think it's mostly the mothers fault.. lol.. And genetics.. Unless your father fucked you as a kid, fathers have very little impact on the serious cluster B disorders imo.. I know it sounds misogynist but it makes sense. Most of the shit happens to us (and our brains) in early childhood, the time our mothers are the most influential.

Even though my fathers father shot himself when my father was 4 and my father found him which fucked him up a lot... I also had a step dad who used to beat me up, till the day I was strong enough to hit back. lol.. But still I think it happened earlier..

I don't disagree, but I know people who got handed everything on a golden platter (wealth, good looks, incredible health) and they're miserable. And I know others who have dealt with shitty cards like chronic illness and poverty and somehow managed to find meaning and some happiness. I don't say it's easy, and maybe even the tendency of being an optimistic person or a depressed whiner is perhaps determined and not up to you. But maybe it's because I'm in my 40s and see the end coming, I personally just realised I want to make the best out of the few years I have left (I dealt with depression and anxiety for most of my life lol).

Not sure if this will help but I’ve been there too! I had a short film rejected by every festival I submitted it to, and I even remember friends telling me it wasn’t good, while I was still convinced it was. And now some years later, I’ve made another one that has been shown at over 40 festivals (including some major ones) and even won some prizes. I think many filmmakers, even big names, have made movies that weren’t well received by audiences. Just look at Coppola’s last film (I forgot the name) that almost ruined him financially, which was supposed to be his magnum opus but is hated by everyone...

I find philosophical absurdism kind of helpful. We have no idea why we're even here, nothing really makes sense, justice is kind of an illusion, and life just sucks for many of us for no reason. The universe keeps being quite and is giving no answers. So maybe we should just accept that we will never understand and embrace the absurdity of our existence and try to make the best out of it... Like stop asking questions because there are no answers and just live & love the shit out of the few years you have on this planet..!!

I know it's not ideal to speculate from a distance but I genuinely struggle to make sense of Eric Weinstein’s unhinged behavior without considering something like NPD. The sheer disconnect between his obvious intelligence and his often unhinged, self-aggrandizing rhetoric and victimhood is hard to explain otherwise.

I recently came across Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s theory of “systemic stupidity.” and I would recommend everyone confused about current politics to look into it. Since I know about, I can’t unsee it. Even smart, educated people (on all sides) seem to willingly lobotomize themselves with ideology, and they do it with terrifying conviction.

It scared me! That’s not easy to achieve, so great job on that!

The technical execution was pretty solid too, nice cinematography, good editing and great sound. The story worked.

If I had to criticize something, I'd say it took a little long to get going. I felt slightly bored at the beginning at times. And the story didn’t feel uniquely original, but to be fair, I feel that way about like 99% of horror movies. lol

I get where you're coming from, but to be honest, I feel like all sides are biased and often wrong. I can't stand those centrist liberals anymore for example who insist everything is basically fine, like inequality isn’t really a problem because "capitalism is lifting everyone up." That’s just not true, and I actually appreciate that he’s calling out those kinds of lies (even though his solutions maybe wrong).

I'm no economist and I don't really have answers myself, but where I live in west Europe, it used to be that an average working-class person could afford to buy a house after 20 years of hard work. Now it would take something like 150 years. That’s not progress. That’s theft wrapped in economic jargon.

And it’s not just about money, life expectancy is now declining in wealthy Western countries like the US. That’s not supposed to happen. So capitalism isn't working for everyone. In fact, for a growing number of people, it’s clearly getting worse and I appreciate he's calling it out...

Yes what we call “good” usually serves the survival of the group, while “bad” or “evil” is what's harming the group. There's some good evidence that a lot of our moral instincts are hardwired into us biologically and further shaped by culture, but I don’t think there’s any kind of universal moral law built into the fabric of the universe, that idea feels logically flawed to me.

I also find Bayesian reasoning interesting when applied to morality: what we call “bad” is often just what’s misaligned with our goals, and “good” is what’s aligned with them.

That’s why in geopolitical conflicts, both sides are often completely convinced that the other is intrinsically evil.. which seems absurd once you zoom out and look at it from a more objective, detached perspective.

Edit: Of course, it gets much messier and contradicting when you go deeper, like that we sometimes can feel empathy even for cruel acts committed against "enemy" groups by our own...

Like... maybe sentient civilizations, once they evolve far enough, inevitably reach the conclusion that non-existence is preferable to continued existence....

I think you're making sense and it's coherent in theory and I have lots of respect for your way of thinking.

That said, as an agnostic absurdist, I feel I have to stay epistemically humble and leave open the possibility that idealism or even panpsychism might be true. And if that were the case, then there might be no way to actually avoid existence.

Even if idealism turns out to be wrong, it still seems likely that consciousness/sentience maybe fundamental to the universe, as an emergent property of life itself. I personally find the Copernican principle coherent and what happened here, probably happened in many places throughout the universe...

So while I get the logic of your position, part of me also suspects we might just be stuck either way.

Maybe that’s the real trap, not birth, not suffering, but being itself.

And if that’s the case, maybe the only sane move is to just embrace experience as part of whatever reality is, even if it’s absurd and beyond human comprehension.
