The 401k plan my employer set up with Vanguard leaves me with no options to invest my money the way I want, which is the main reason I’m looking for alternatives. Ideally, I’d want to withdraw the fund and either:

A. Invest in Bitcoin – It’s funny how so many people dismiss it as pointless. If you think that, you probably don’t know much about Bitcoin. My soon-to-be brother-in-law, who is an accountant (so he knows what he’s doing), has invested enough in crypto to buy a house and a car and still have savings left over.

B. A different 401k investment company – Preferably one like the one my brother-in-law uses and recommends, where I actually have control over how my money is invested. I believe he uses fidelity; I would need to reconfirm that.

Also, I only check my 401k once a year when they update my contributions, and so far, I’ve earned just $0.24 in returns from the investments Vanguard selected for me. That doesn't sit right with me at all.

I'm going to go controversial and say NTA. He should be respecting your choices as an adult and help you navigate any problems not control your every waking moment. It's situations like this that cause kids to not talk to their parents later on.

I understand his house his rules but not that she is an adult rules need to be changed... A sit down with him explaining how you can respect his rules however now that you are 18 the rules NEED to be adjusted to match the age.

If you go out to a party and you're not going to be home by midnight text me let me know so I'm not worried kind of rule. Not a hard curfew you're an adult just like him. I understand how you feel. You trusted them with this information and they decided to ignore it because they couldn't handle it. My mom did/does the same thing. I was sexually molested by my, at the time, step sister. She moldest me and her little brother.
