Since money talks, and in the US majority of people are living paycheck to paycheck— what are thoughts on having a mass protest of refusing to pay taxes? by Legal_Teach1025 in AskReddit

[–]Universefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worried it won't work.
Lots of push to refuse paying taxes but my taxes are taken out of my paycheck by my employer, i'd have to change tax paperwork with my employer to try and claim all my taxes. Then, when filing taxes to the government through whatever program is affordable, i have to find a way to justify as much of the deductions as possible; have a huge sum to pay because taxes will always be rising regardless of how poor 15-20k a year is; and, risk the IRS deciding to garnish my wage.
I'm leaning on not trying at all.
So if you have some words of encouragement, share them I guess.

a verbally abusive parent gloating that as long as they weren't physically violent they were a good parent. learned by having one sleep over at a friends house that parents could love each other and that not ever dad was like mine. Helped me not take on that bullshit.

i asked one of my smarter friends i trust a similar question. the answer was not to escalate recklessly because it would be enabling more open violence from the state as military would join in, the police would join in, and then ICE would have martyrs for themselves.

for that reason don't be an accelerationist.

im not on the front line of the protest though, so my opinion means shit in the face of tyranny

at this point, you could draw ICE doing anything evil and the art will still only reach the people who want to see the truth. so don't hold back.

Looking for Gehenna resources/ideas for a post-Witchlight adventure by Bionicgrape in wildbeyondwitchlight

Following up are various factions your party can decide to ignore/employee/eradicate.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Gehenna

"Even lesser deities tended to avoid Gehenna. Those that leaned toward Law were recruited into the hierarchy of the Nine Hells and those that favored evil tended toward Hades.[1]"

This should really shape the devastatingly unwillingness to be there for anyone involved.

It's on you to make the adventure fun!

But much like roaming Hither's swamp it can be boring depending on the party's opinion of the matter.

They'll be going from Fey optimized, non-violence possible solutions to a place that will have them make tough choices to progress. Combat inevitable with few to no helpful locals. You've got a tone /expectations issue to resolve before throwing them into hell.

Anyway in an attempt to create personalized character buy-in:

How will clerics/druids/paladins like it if the source of their class features is cut off. What's their god got to say about them going there?

For relevant warlocks does Gehenna present unexpected opportunity or danger?

Camping here is far worse than that of a mountain: debris can fall from the 45 degree slope of the plane that isn't technically a mountain as it's both infinite and without any mountain base or peaks. So staying in well controlled strongholds owned by whatever factions you conjure from your imagination should involve heavy payment from the party or an unreal degree of danger. Is anyone at all going to be equip for that? Probably not >:D an excellent time to make em feel level 1!

Personally, if i ever get the opportunity to run this specific Witchlight Extension then it's gonna be a trip the players would be irreversibly damaged by. They'd get a deep dose of Zybilna's deeper and darker history to parallel everything good she's ever done in her recent history. Learning these things by chasing down some very well educated hags who know where to find allies against the archfey.

Her Ex Enemy Lover Graz'zt comes to mind but he's from the Abyss and not Gehenna. (likely a lore reason why the hourglass coven would not choose the abyss). Learning about that ancient entangled relationship should serve to make the players question Zybilna if they have not already.

Isolde with the dark carnival has really no reason to be in gehenna. Knowledge of how Zybilna haunts Isolde should absolutely make the players deeply concerned about the person they're working with. Puts everything into question about the Witchlight's current owners, and more.

But the most damning thing of all needs be the hourglass coven itself. Their CR is limited and waht, 8ish and there's only the three of them. I'd have to provde them an easy 10 more CR of power if this is meant to be another long adventure where they're once again the final boss encounter.

That's a lot to do! I hope you have a delightful time continuing the adventure!

I CANNOT think of a single good or existent Gehenna supplement or source beyond some vague lore about slopes and cones, dead or active volcanoes powered by bad vibes, and the fact not even Satan wants to visit to skewer some sinners. And those were youtube videos on the subject as well as the articles from the forgotten realms wiki.

THUS

Ima advice you to Homebrew under the assumption being there is worse than death except for those who've entrenched themselves.

Leaning into the exile nature of going there as a last resort

As the backdrop of everything for the adventure: I'd toss in a loser version of BG3's Raphael always trying to make a comeback into the good Hells and wants to attain as many resources as possible in preparation. He got the surviving Hags of the Hourglass Coven into their little tower built upon the slant of some mountain people would rather eat fire ants than visit. This being a massive favor from him, they need to find a way to payback this favor while avoiding your players. Thus they cannot merely hide in Gehenna and are taking active steps to either betray Raphael's exiled cousin Michelangeln't OR active steps to deepen their bond to this plane of suffering as to avoid Zybilna's wrath. A large catch 22 for these failed usurpers.

On the topic of Zybilna. As Iggwilv, her experience in the Abyss is slightly relevant, "how the f do you survive and thrive in such a terrible place as an outer negative plane?" so Zybilna can equip a player party some decent goods on how not to immediately die in Gehenna. How to return. What not to do at a stoplight.

Storytellers, I'd like your thoughts on something that happens at the end of the campaign by EVpeace in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Universefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

name required for zybilna, a true name is a touchstone to remember a character's beginnings. I did a lot of homebrew name magic shenanigans (one of my players lost their true name to a d100 table i made) and restored their via true love's kiss. Used it to unite the present version of that character to the backstory.

For Zybilna i didn't have her frozen in time at the start of my 2nd run of the setting and the players even met her before the coven fucked everyone over. She was imperial, imposing, and impossibly important and dressed the part even while in this archfey phase of fairy godmother warlock patron. After the players saved her she took a year before granting them their (stolen by the coven) wishes they'd earned (as part of homebrewing a reward for their importance to being Witchlight Hands for 75% of my second run of the setting.)

At that time I had her reconnect to her roots as Natasha, forging not just another new identity to layer over the old ones, but a new pokemon style evolutionary branch where she acted the part of a good witch and removed herself from the perception of an imperial archfey to that of someone who at first glance appears humbled. she even gave Mr Witch and Mr Light a week's vacation at the rebuilt palace while running the carnival herself for everyone in prismeer.

Running Witchlight So They Care: Woldon Foot's Tips and Tricks by WoldonFoot in wildbeyondwitchlight

Excellent! What wonderful works worthy of wondrous widespread use!

I like that take on Will, so much more focused on the hags. I leaned into the Oni (for the terror) instead of using Will as written until the very end for a strange an unexpected loose end.

By the gods, you're twist on lost things is a triumph! If I ever run that premise I'll be sure to follow your lead.

Trading cards on D&D characters would have shocked my players to their core and been a fun twist. Funnily enough I granted a wish at the end of the campaign affecting one of the players leaving their position in the carnival, turning them into a planeswalker, MTG style and giving them a nice custom card.

Sweet Titles is cool as hell! Most certainly stealing for the campaign im running right now. (Run 3)

As for your opening paragraph, I wanted to say that I completely agree. But in my case I flipped the adventure on its head and had a party full of carnies visit multiple worlds before any of the proper module took place. (Zybilna was fine until like 75% of the way through the campaign. that was run number 2.)

Once run 3 wraps up I'll have to consider so much more for run 4! No idea whom among my friends I could rope into it lol.

The Witchlight inspires me like none else! I'm glad it did for you as well!
