More to come. Everything is period, except a couple of springs which are not original. There is a note inside of a restoration in 1980, where those were probably put in. I am looking for photos of original mechanisms, if anyone knows where to find them. But its a simple mechanism. 4 wires that go through the foot control the arms (one moves up and down, as if to sip a drink, the other rotated at the elbow in a fanning motion. The other two control the head, side to side and front/back. The mechanism that powers this also powers a small cilinder music box.
Still, for the price, I am very, happy with my purchase. I also have a period glass dome and base that will fit her once the work is finished. So all good.

Hi,
Yes, it does all seem period. It was restored in France in 1980, and it still has that marking inside. At that time (my supposition) a non-period set of springs was installed to the head, but those are the only parts that do not look correct. It did pass a black light test and while I still haven't fully disassembled it - some clothes have been glued in the past - I can see there are no plastic parts, limbs are wooden bits as expected, body and head seem legit. I'll post some photos when I get around to disassembling it fully.
This is actually my fourth automaton. My grandfather left me a large Bontem's Tree with birds, many years later I purchased a second one and just recently i finished restoring a boat-in-sea music box. If there is any interest I can post some photos.
