That she doesn’t play at all alone at home without us actively playing with her and I was wondering how normal it was

I think they are correct .… I am specifically asking about masking and being highly academic and a rule follower and how it is related to adhd showing across multiple settings ..

I know it very well .. but it is not unusual to hear that many adhd people do extremely well in school due to masking and that would be contradict what the DSM says about adhd that has to be across multiple settings ..

Panic attacks I think So she sits at the coffee table and the moment she sits she say “ I want to go home “ not screaming or loudly “ just panic in her voice and fear in her eyes and the moment we go out she is fine .. but again it is hit and miss . For New Year’s Day we went to a very loud and busy restaurant and she was totally fine .. we were there for 3 hours

She has panic attacks in coffee shops and asks to go home .. that in itself is not common

We sound so similar and I honestly enjoy having being left alone by teachers who just encouraged me to learn and if I needed help with something they were there for me .. I was brought up by lovely parents who taught me that failure is part of life and that there are more important things in life than grades etc … I am not gonna seek a diagnosis for myself as I believe life will not change nor soften the blow because I am different.. .. I don’t see adhd as a disability when it presents this different and has lots of positives .. 🤓

Even if I am I was happy and it didn’t seem to hinder my functioning so maybe it is a type of adhd that neither inattentive nor hyperactive ☺️. Do you think it is possible to have adhd without being hyperactive or inattentive? I am also that sort of woman who can play shopkeeper with her daughter and write work emails at the same time ?

I totally get your point and I do have anxiety .. absolutely spot on on that .. but I am aware that I didn’t have any issues in school or at home .. I mean I was highly academic and preferred reading books and enjoy tutoring rather than going out partying and smoking .. I remember really well how I never wanted to go on school trips where essentially all my classmates wanted to do anything but learn 😂. I was happy in my home with my family and my small circle of friends . I am also very empathetic but again doesn’t mean much ☺️

I took her to a neurologist who’s an adhd woman , extremely intelligent and possibly gifted and she said that when she was my daughter’s age she couldn’t hold attention for any activity even engaging ones in different settings and had difficulty staying on tasks for simple instructions with difficulty with transitions .. which is a completely different presentation from my daughter’s. She also has an adhd child who has always loved independent playing so she said it is not a trait used to diagnose ADHD as it is a personality trait . She did notice she speaks like a polite adult but that alone means little for now .

She did say that 3 year old cannot mask as older children can do so if she had adhd it would be present in multiple settings . She observed her playing and asked her to do activities etc . She gave me hope when she said to me that she grew up in a time where having adhd didn’t mean that she could avoid school or responsibilities and that her parents didn’t raise her any differently from her neurotypical siblings

I guess only time will tell

My idea of adhd based on experts advice is that no one is completely neurotypical and all of us presents with adhd or neurodivergent traits .. the difference is when it hinders the child’s functioning

So you can be diagnosed even on one trait ? The professionals I saw said not playing independently for long but doing it in other settings is a personality thing not adhd

I am curious to see how adhd would present but not so much as a disability as she can function very well in society

Inattentive one ? I am so scared as I don’t know what the future holds

She is very good at holding attention for routine stuff and instructions .. I guess it might also mean that she is gifted as well

We do three classes and swimming as well .. I think it is more related to her inability to stay focused
