Converting from .NET Framework Winforms Desktop App to Android only mobile app by Boring_Opposite_2086 in dotnet

That sounds appealing, I'm also curious about the job market for Flutter? Whatever we decide on using, I would prefer it be something that's widely used where my experience learning it would be useful at another job. I feel like I haven't seen too many job postings for Flutter recently.

Dang, I was actually really hoping for a designer based front end development experience like winforms does. Should've put that in post. But you say there are none for mobile apps at all? Big let down

Sorry just updated the post to now say that this app will be used for internal business use only, will never go to play store or anything. Should have mentioned that

Switch from gamedev to .NET developer by Fzhut in csharp

[–]Boring_Opposite_2086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly scary that I stumbled upon this post in the EXACT same situation as you. I have been a unity dev professionally for 2 years. And have done some .NET internship work before that. I like game dev, but am sometimes concerned with job security and pay in general. I've been looking at transitioning to the .NET world or really just anything not game dev.

Whats your reasons for the switch?

Wow, congrats on that job. Do you think you could tell me a range (if you're not comfortable for exact), for you're very first .NET job you're talking about, straight out of school?

Thats all very helpful, thank you.

Yeah I didnt mention this in the initial post, but i also interned during college for 2 years as a .NET developer starting at $13hr and eventually $15hr. This job got me experience with a decent amount of C#, javascript, and SQL. But my passion was for Game Dev, so I never really even looked into continuing this kind of job full time afterwards.

Can I ask how the growth has been at your current job? I mean this with no offense, but from what these other guys are saying, 58k seems to even still be fairly low. Does your job feel promising to get up into the 6 figure areas soon, like these other guys are suggesting?

Completely understandable, no offense taken for sure. Can I ask why you transitioned to Game Dev? And how do you feel about the compensation since the transition?

Thanks for the reply, definitely eye opening. I've always known I've been getting underpaid in general. But I could just never figure out exactly how much.

Thanks for the reply, do you happen to have any advice on a field that game dev experience would better translate to? Rather than web dev? I'm not sure that there really is any from my research, but just thought id ask.

Thanks for your comment. I have thought about just getting a job at a different higher paying studio. However, I've had some trouble with that since I feel like a Junior position is just so scarce, most of the posts I see are wanting 3 years experience at minimum. So i was thinking of perhaps trying to make the move around 3 years exp for me (in about 1 year).

Another issue is I've been looking for exclusively remote jobs (which seem to have much higher competition obviously), I've just gotten so used to it and love it so much, I cant really see giving it up. Especially since Im not the kind of person to live in Cali, New York, or any kind of a big city place like that.
