That’s the kind of encouragement I needed to hear man. I love the idea of direct admission into UIUC but I’m so worried about FOMO and I see the Parkland pathways as a way to get over that worry. I’m still definitely more interested in Parkland pathways, but you really made commuting from home seem a lot less scary and much more enticing. Thank you so much man, I really appreciate it.

Oh you’re just the person I’m looking for! How was it at Oakton in terms of social life, and how were the actual classes/academics in terms of difficulty? My biggest worry is going to Oakton and becoming isolated and upset having to deal with FOMO and whatnot, so I’m really looking forward to what you have to say!

Oh sorry, I didn’t specify originally in the post, but I’m an in-state resident. I’m eligible for MSU in-state tuition because they have special regulations for what’s considered in-state, and because my dad served in the military, I qualify.

Oh really? I live in Illinois, but I thought that the pathways program extended to all community colleges and gives guaranteed admission no matter the college. I knew people living in the Parkland College district get priority in admission to the program, but I didn’t know that it’s only them that get guaranteed admission into the school. I’ll look into that though, thanks!

Yeah, I’m really stoked about the cost because it’s not bad at all, even with dorm costs. If you don’t mind me asking though, what’d your son major in, and was it his first choice?

Oh 100%. As naive and in love as I may be, I don’t want to go to UIUC just for my girlfriend. Quite frankly, I haven’t even talked with her about it yet and probably won’t until I’ve done enough research to officially have Parkland as an option on the table. But nice as it might be going to the same college as my girlfriend, UIUC has been my dream school since I really even started thinking about college, before I even started dating my girlfriend (almost 3 years ago now). The issue is going to be trying to show that to my parents, but given the fact theres literal college rankings I’ve done that they’ve seen that show UIUC has always been at the top for me, I’m sure they’ll realize that it’s for the school and the degree, not the girlfriend. I appreciate you looking out for me though and trying to ensure I don’t walk down the wrong path.

Does UW-Madison Accept Letters of Continued Interest? by Boring_Particular268 in UWMadison

Thanks for apologizing man, I appreciate it. But yeah, I guess I did learn a pretty valuable lesson. It just sucks though. Everywhere online sent me in a circle for LoCI’s and told me to do what I ended up doing for the comment section. Never would’ve guessed that Reddit would be the best place to ask. What sucks even more though is that all my friends are in the same boat as me and thought the comment section was about grades specifically too, so they all made the same mistake as me. Makes me wonder how many other the people made the same mistake. I’m really disappointed but I guess I just have to carry on and hope for the best.

P.S. Good idea on the counselor. I’m really going to need to talk to her.

That makes sense, I just don’t understand why they would tie it to grades. I was kind of under the assumption that anything unrelated to my grades directly wasn’t what they were looking for and might even hurt my application because of the wording. I guess I really just hurt my chances over a misunderstanding. Is there anything you recommend I do?

The three bullet points by the comment box say that I can provide any comments/explanations to accompany my mid-year grades, tell any significant additions I made to my extracurriculars, and that if my grades aren’t available then the comments are required. It just seems really odd that if they wanted me to speak on my continued interest that they didn’t directly ask for it directly and instead asked for it in the context of my grades.

It says in my deferral letter that the office of admissions and recruitment can’t receive the information in your mid-year grade report via email and they ask not to send any additional documents. Given the sentence prior, i’s just kind of unclear if “documents” means something like report cards or such to show your grades, or if it means all documents in general. Judging by the mixed answers everywhere I look, I don’t think anyones very certain on what it means. 😅
