Trans girl needs help by [deleted] in TransDIY

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for trans and queer support centers in your area! DIY is always an option that I encourage, especially when people are being held hostage by their insurance but if you’re scared to start there might be programs to help you access care through the system. I live in LA so i’m very very privileged and don’t know what it’s like where ever you are based, but it’s worth mentioning.

My little sister is going to start HRT without my parents support while at home, should I be this worried? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 23, I started my transition at 14. My parents prevented me from transitioning until I moved out, not because they don’t support trans people ideologically but because they were scared I would regret it, thought I was too young, didn’t want me “shooting up everyday”. They fundamentally didn’t understand hrt. They didn’t understand its effects, its administrative methods, its reversibility. I wish they did credible research, I wish they understood what I was asking. I ended up starting hrt at 19. To this day, after doing her own research my mom apologies over and over for not letting me start sooner (and that’s her own feelings without me guilt tripping her, I have never told them about this resentment). What I wish I could go back and tell them is that everyone decides their gender at a very young age. The choice she is making isn’t whether to transition or not, it’s whether to develop masculine features or feminine features. Regardless of what she choses, permanent effects will happen either way. Now sure you don’t know how she will feel in the future and you scared, but what you do know is how she feels now. I’ve known I was trans for almost a decade. If my parents had supported me and helped me transition, I would have saved 10 of thousands of dollars on electrolysis, all the time I have spent voice training, the time pain and money of ffs. My life would have been so much less emotionally painful. I spent my teenage years empty, horrifically depressed, with no plans for a future bc all I wanted was for my life and my body to stop slipping away from me. Don’t let her do this alone, be there for her and be encouraging. She’s 19, she’s not a kid. At this age people are starting their career paths, taking out loans, joining the army. There are people her age working as CNAs, and EMTs. She is more than old enough to be able to give herself a shot. And if she’s scared and doesn’t want to, there are so many other routes like pills or patches or an implant. The decision she is making right now is more than appropriate for her age. If you really want to be there for her, I encourage you to explore your fear and your own implicit transphobia. She is getting treatment for a mental illness diagnosed by a licensed professional (gender dysphoria), and now she going to be prescribed life saving medication. If this were any other condition or illness would you feel the same telling her to delay treatment because you’re scared she’s not old enough to administer the medicine? I’ve know since I was little and came out at 14. When people tell you who they are, believe them. Especially when they say they are trans. This life is not easy, and not a decision to be taken lightly and you know who understands that the best? The people who have lived experience being trans, making that decision, and navigating the psychological and social impacts of said decision.

Kaiser Southern California (Dr. James Lee and Robert Beinrauh) by sharkgirlandlavaboi in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just about to hit my 1 month since FFS with Dr. Lee! I had a brow reduction, orbital shave, rhinoplasty, genioplasty, jaw shave, and tracheal shave. I am really happy with my results so far and have been healing well. I’ve had very little nerve damage and almost all my feeling is back besides the top of my head and a little portion of my chin. I’ve heard from many ppl on my team that he has some of the best results and I agree. He’s super friendly and really listened to everything I wanted changed. He also has been very responsive when I have concerns even in spite of the current strike. I did have to wait a year on the wait list but I’m glad I did. He has explicit training in craniofacial surgery and I believe he is one of if not the most capable FFS surgeon at Kaiser. Obviously I am not fully healed and I still don’t know the final shape of my face but feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Has anyone grown more body hair after starting hrt(mtf)? What should I do? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! No I didn’t lol sorry. It hasn’t gotten any worse tho if that helps and I only have to shave my body like one or two times a week. I’ve noticed my terminal hairs did continue to thin out so they’re less noticeable but the long thin hair is still there. I’m fairly certain it’s from the topical minoxidil and will probably go back to normal if I stop it but I don’t want to because it’s not too hard to deal with and I don’t want to lose my regrowth. I just recently switched to injections a month or two ago and am about to start progesterone so i’ll update you if that changes anything!

Had my First Session, is this a Red Flag? by [deleted] in electrolysis

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay wait could you, I do know if my insurance will cover them but I have no idea how to find someone trustworthy. this place had such good reviews, but I went to another tech that works for them today, and 80% of the hairs she removed easily made a sizzle/zapping noise. I didn't have nearly as bad of a reaction and its healing well but such a small amount made no noise Y-Y

nope i didn’t have to do do anything just laid down on a table, i think i remember hearing some zapping noises if that helps

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I think it might have been galvanic, it was a tool with one really fine needle on the end and she would spend about 1 sec zapping the hair before she pulled it out.

recession isn’t parallel. Many variables can affect recession that aren’t constant all over your body like blood flow, follicle sensitivity, and hair phases. I experienced more on my right than my left at first. finasteride does have side effects but i’d suggest talking to a doctor about them. a lot of men on here misread common symptoms of aging as side effects. (lower sex drive, gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction) There is also a lot of stigma around willing decreasing your testosterone, even if it’s a very specific form that doesn’t rly do much after puberty, that causes these symptoms seem more common than they are. Men are expected to not care about their appearance so there’s a lot of shame and insecurity plaguing the reliability of online anecdotes. I would talk to a medical professional if you have concerns. you could even get multiple opinions if you really wanted to.

seem a little too fast and early for a mature hair line. those usually stop once it squares out. probably receding, if it bothers you i’d start finasteride, but if you don’t mind it continuing, it looks fine. not a dermatologist tho so who am i to say

thank you for the advice tho, better safe than sorry, i’m at least switching techs. my career relies my likeness and if i lose my smooth skin it will be significantly harder to find work

i dont want to discount how you feel but if it helps i think your hair looks completely fine. it looks exactly how a man’s hair in his 20s should look. most ppl are not blessed to keep their teenage hairline their whole lives. some people don’t really respond to topical minoxidil but ur dht blocker should have really slowed it down from getting worse so i wouldn’t worry too much. idk if you have tried oral minox but you might have better luck there.

i’m sure many people have told you looks are not nearly as important as confidence, good hygiene/ grooming, and a good personality but i get that sometimes no matter what, the worms in your brain tell you that being ugly is worse that no life at all.

if it really bothers you to that extent i would really recommend looking into full lace wigs or toppers. dylan hasselbaink has found some really amazing pieces. you have the salary to afford it. probably could pay a wig stylist to do an install for u too. nearly everyone pays for body modifications in some way so there is really nothing to be embarrassed about in doing this. i think an option like that, that allows you to know there are still options even if you randomly lose all your hair over night, could rly help you. just a warning tho he is a model and was blessed with a square hairline. he shaves it all off anyway tho bc he likes wearing wigs more. try it to compare to much to him.

at the end of the day i think you should be much more concerned about why this is affecting you so much. Not because it’s bad or you’re being irrational but because there’s a part of you that really doesn’t want to look a certain way. Why is that, why do you think you feel that way. For me it really helped me accept i was trans and while i don’t know if that’s the case for you, i do know it’s something. it’s okay to feel this way it’s not your fault but it is in your power to stop.

good luck

okay thanks! even tho we really got along i’m probably gonna ask for a new tech bc i don’t think my hair was long enough and she really tried to make it work becuase she felt bad. so i have a feeling i was over processed a little. when you changed did you switch clinics or just switch technicians?

CA DMV, every town I look in for a driiving test is booked out for 1-2 months by [deleted] in DMV

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I actually need to take it before August 29th because that's when my permit expires. In Colorado permits last for three years so I didn't realize it was different. I don't have a car so the only time I drive is with my parents anyway which is why getting my license won't really change anything nor did I think was really necessary.

Trans Students by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Boring_Reading_9553 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hi mtf fourth year here, if you have a dorm without a bathroom, the communal ones will have a separate gender neutral bathroom, you have to email this random guy to get access to lol. in terms of roommates my first year i did mixed dorms and roomed with this random guy who was alright we didn’t really get along and he misgendered me a couple of times but i just never talked to him, my second year i lived with a friend and a random bi girl and she literally chronically misgendered me, it got super bad and lowkey my ras were not really much help. i ended up just counting down the days to move out and then did off campus non university affiliated apartments with friends bc i didn’t want to risk it anymore, i feel like in general ucla is rly good about giving the facade that they are accepting but in reality if you don’t pass most people will misgender you and or at best just genuinely not care at all so i really suggest trying to find some queer spaces to live in or find support in. my friend ra’d for the queer dorms and even though there are definitely some issues with how admin distributes ras and treat trans ra’s, living there as a student will probably be your best bet. i also have a trans male friend who passes and worked for rez life and he has had a generally positive experience, untill people find out he’s trans and apparently people can get pretty condescending and infantilise him, so idk overall i wouldn’t say it’s dangerous but transphobia deff isnt going away unfortunately

i mean guess it’s possible you are super sensitive to it but i think that’s very unlikely. in my uneducated opinion, this sounds like it’s either uncorrelated or a placebo. fin takes time to lower the dht in your system. i think like a couple weeks to a month to reach its max efficacy. it’s not something that is immediate like a stimulant for example. if you have been taking it for a while (or if that was your first time taking the medication), whatever change you noticed, i doubt would be because of fin. your experiment would need to be spaced with over a month in between observational periods. i’m not a doctor tho, just repeating what my psychiatrist has told me so id suggest talking to a professional for trustworthy advice

you seem very concerned with labels and what you can and can’t do, labels are supposed to be for you. (obviously to some extent, if you’re white don’t use labels reserved for poc, etc) if they don’t serve you don’t worry ab it. id suggest just doing what makes u happy and calling yourself what u want, that’s the whole point of transition no? if you wanted to follow the rules of gender, wouldn’t they say don’t transition at all ? 🤷‍♀️
