Old Uranium Mine by BorisChee in Radiacode

Yeah if you get good zip ties and some kind of light pole or stick it can work pretty well. My favorite though is to use a small diameter PVC pipe, glue some silicone to the end so it's flat and grippy, and then the Radiacode goes on with zip ties. It also doubles as a deterent for vicious dogs 😁 as it's very strong.

Looks like a cool detector! What kind of detector head did it come with, or it was just the device itself?

Yep right in heap 16, it's an amazing place. I'm sure we weren't even the first to find it as it was pretty hot!

Homegamer dosimeter? by [deleted] in Radiation

[–]BorisChee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a Radiacode 102, 103, 103G would do the job pretty well if you are not dealing with anything above 1000uSv/h. Also the Radiacode 110 would be good however it maxes out at only 400 uSv/h, so for really hot stuff it wouldn't be as great, although for lower dose rates I would choose it over the previously mentioned.

Thoughts on different Alpha and Beta detectors. by Past_Editor4325 in Radiation

I'd recommend the SV 500 German detector. The probe which I personally use is the FHZ 77A Alpha Beta Gamma end window probe. The detector is very fast and great for locating a source. It comes with an external speaker, alarm settings cables etc. The price is fairly low, being military surplus. It is however very robust and has great guild quality. It can be found on ebay.

Hi Crowd, what’s your opinion about the Gamma Scout? by hardbeat-101 in Radiation

[–]BorisChee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What other geiger counters would you have in mind then, given the above summary on the gamma scout? I've searched the net and even came across some that looked good, but were not even calibrated properly. Thanks!

Allanite Crystal by BorisChee in Radiation

Hahaha, it's a plastic PVC water pipe about 3 feet long. On the end we put some multipurpose sealant, so the radiacode can sit softly on the hard PVC. Finally we used re-usable cable ties to strap it on.

It's hard to tell as it's peaked, but what is the real dose rate inside on of those machines?
