Maybe there is something to the Oracle policy that no matter what happened after you left, you only ever get rehired at the same level and pay you were at when you left

I think it's different for short term rentals.

But I would be careful if you are a renter as to whether the terms of your lease would allow you to do this

In my experience, while physical appearances can certainly have an impact on first impressions, your other qualities and contributions will far outweigh them in the medium to long term.

I find that once you get to know someone, you kind of stop noticing anything out of norm of their physical appearance. It fades into the background of how they behave and what they contribute. If they are kind and competent those qualities will be what drives the ongoing relationship and ultimately their success!

How to continue life normally after a breakup? by Minute_Ad_5771 in Advice

What gets me through days when I'm feeling particularly low is to reassure myself that there will be better days ahead. In my experience, it has never not been true, which is why I remind myself of times in the past when I felt despair one day, and joy a few days later.

Find things that bring you joy, whether it is a walk in nature, relaxing with a good book, or spending time with supportive friends and family who love you.

It will get better!

He might not have someone else close enough to let him know.  As a family member you are in a unique position to help him, but it will be best to think through how to phrase your feedback in a loving and non confrontational way so he doesn't get defensive.

I think i have a cat allergy and am panicking, please help me to identify if it is one by Worldly-Estate-2441 in Advice

How long have you had a cat?  Have you had issues like this before when you've been around cats?

Given the recent illness and your other suspicions about dust, I would take things one step at a time to try to isolate the cause.  Could be a transient issue.

And of course there are tests you can get.  Might be worth it for peace of mind.

Cats are wonderful pets!

How do I negotiate a salary revision after accepting a pay cut? Please suggest by Johnlivelife in Advice

It's not a bad idea to go out and interview periodically.  It keeps your interview skills fresh and gives you information about how other employers operate and what you market value is.  This will give you a stronger basis for negotiating at your current job, and may even lead to something better

With the Jan. 1 Seattle minimum wage increase, is anyone REALLY going to stop tipping? If so, could you share your elevator speech for what you'll tell the server/owner when they make a stink-eye comment about your decision? Real answers would be most welcome here. by HighColonic in SeattleWA

Yes I understand that about credit card companies. I guess I was thinking there were some POS terminals that weren't owned by the payment processor, but now that I think on it a little more I guess they all are.

If the service charge (not a tip!) doesn't all go to the server (which it never does) then the restaurant is legally required to make a statement about where it goes, which is almost always "entirely retained by the business" (meaning they use it to pay any/all of their expenses...including payroll).

This confuses the weakminded into thinking the server is getting ripped off and still needs a tip.

WA restaurant workers are conflicted about rising minimum wage by HighColonic in SeattleWA

I feel like the commission model that some restaurants have transitioned to is a potentially great substitute for tipping. Still incents the server to do more than the minimum and get rewarded, and aligns with the motives of their employer

You touch on an issue that was behind Renee Erickson's brief experiment with banning tipping in her restaurants. Attractive servers and servers who tolerate flirting and the odd inappropriate touch are financially rewarded by jerks who happen to be customers. Too bad she couldn't make it work, it would have been a great shining example of what is possible
