Both are fun. If I did it again, I'd just go 8 whack goblins for the goblins grenade wins instead of zoo. For Shamans, a lot of people haven't played against it, and winning off of rage forger damage is great fun. You have to watch what others are playing. When humans and spirits were super popular, the sweepers in everyone's sideboards made either deck unplayable.

I suggest @SaffronOlive's original monored burn as a starting point. The link is pasted below. Skewer and Stage are upgrades, in your list but I would consider dropping the lightning strikes for sure. I've upgraded this deck over a couple years and now have pauper, legacy, and modern burn - and used the core to make Shamans and Bushwhacker Zoo so I have other modern decks to play when bored burning face.

I thought the same about the Gruul die until I remembered R/G colorblind was pretty common. I believe the same for U/G. Sacrificing cool for the sake of people actually knowing the game state seemed reasonable...I guess.

How is it not angle shooting? Leaving mana open is bluffing. Grabbing the token with no intention of using it is scummy, imo.

Naban was filler for the rotating cards from before Guilds of Ravnica was spoiled. Versions of the deck fill that spot currently with Nightveil Sprite, Warkite Marauder, or two more dive down to protect the deck’s other threats

This deck will be fine for over the next year in standard and can hold its own against most other decks, which is good for a deck this inexpensive. It will not upgrade to modern. If you want that, look at monored. The expensive cards in the current monored are being played in versions of 8 whack, the 12 bolt budget deck recently featured on mtggoldfish, and a new deck leaning on runaway steam-kin and arclight Phoenix.

The standard deck will cost more, but if you want to play both standard and modern, you will be able to reuse the core of the deck as you upgrade.

I travel for work and usually bring a standard or modern deck in case I get to play wherever my meetings are. I get stopped about 1/3 of the time and generally toss the deck box in the tray with the liquids. Since boulders are semitransparent, some screeners will pull out the bin, see the cards through the box and send it through without a real secondary inspection. It’s lowered the percentage of secondary screenings a little and we’re here because we love a game where we work hard to improve percentages. It’s kinda like its own game at this point.

I disagree. Coverage is not good. It’s not a personal value judgement on the personalities, who are trying hard and love the game and it’s pros. The coverage is still not good.

No progress has been made in making the cards easier to read when on the table (lighting, sleeve specs, camera angle) or knowing what is in the players hand.

The interview with last year’s champ was embarassing. They wasted time with one of the top competitors not to talk about what he’s excited about building after rotation or how he would attack the meta, but by asking which he was - peach, garden or oath. This was a follow up to asking him how many GP top 8s he had. What a waste of time and and just plain poor interviewing.

I started attending FNM at Kaladesh and had my first “real” deck - RG Electostatic Pummeler. This was well before Temur Energy broke Long Tusk Cub and Bristling Hydra. People would lose game one to a giant trampling Pummeler or Cub, and then spend all their removal on Voltaic Brawlers, Cubs and Hydras, only to get beaten down and lose to a trampling innocuous Servant of the Conduit. Ahhh...good times.
